Grado modders go Magnum

My quick review is that the V9 does everything very well. Strong and deep bass, beautiful mid s and great highs with no spikes or shrill sounds. Pics on Friday.

I have only about 4 hours of head time so far, but to me they were perfect right out of the shipping packet. I have owned quite a few Grados and all of the aftermarket drivers. This V9 is as good as or better than any that I can remember.

Well done Rhydon!

If you have a spare set of cups or some ancient drivers, order some V9 s. You won't regret it.

I'm waiting for the V100s.

Just kidding.

This is tempting me to upgrade my Magnums again.

That's a little ridiculous... Waiting till V100. Silly Rabbit! But seriously... At the current improvement rate for each version, what would say a V 50 get me? I think that would be reasonable, right? Can somebody do the math here? Linear Algebra, Differential equations? Something should be able to spit out an answer... Maybe some type of Matrix chart

Curiosity got the best of me. Order placed for V9's :)

I just received these from Feasbaby (thanks again!). Seemed justification enough for a new set of drivers....

Glad you like your cups as well :D

Those grills, how much do they protrude? Do they touch your ears at all?

Not much at all. I started out in very flat generic L s and quickly switched to Grado G cush. I had no contact with the grills with either.

Your cocobolo cups rule!!

Hey! Not near as much listening as I used to. I mainly collect Symphones drivers and keep them in a drawer! Good to see ya!

My one week follow up.

The V9 s are becoming my favorite listen. Usually my evening session is done with my LCD3 or Sendy Aiva. But I keep reaching for the V9 s. With the genuine Grado G cush on them, they rock!

Has anyone else got their V9 s installed in cups and making music yet?

Received my V9's 3 days ago and installed them.
Should mention that they are well packaged inside the cardboard delivery box.
A new thing other than the grills compared to the V8's is the thin rim of foam that circumferentially surrounds the driver. This makes it dead easy to install them into the cups - no need for plumbing tape or blutack to get a good seal.
Had a quick listen without burning them in.
Initial impressions are they sound a lot like the V8's which is a good thing.
Might post further impressions down the track. I have Nhoord Reds and Elleven Acoustica Epsilon G1's to compare to as well.
