Grado modders go Magnum

Here's my solution.
3M Transpore "breathable" hospital tape.

due to several surgeries over the last few years between the wife and i, we have a good assortment of medical tape.
no transpore, but we had some medipore, and micropore
the medipore is a little more porous , i'm trying it first.

medipore

micropore

side by side, micro left, medi right

going to the drugstore later today, will pickup some transpore and compare

Thanks 7keys,

That's saved me a few bucks.

I find that the extra bass from the quarter modded comfies makes casual listening more 'fun' especially if the music is 'uncomplicated' but for songs/albums where there's a lot of subtle things happening at once the L-cush is is far better at picking them up.

Just need a bit more bass to avoid compensating by a general db increase... oh well, sorry ears.

I like the looks of the medipore. Let me know how it turns out vs the transpore, soundwise.

I wonder if you can get them without all the writing on 'em...

Writing doesn't look that great.

Built this last weekend and have been racking up the hours the last couple of days. I'm using cheesecloth (held in place by the earpads) to protect the drivers and transpore as a temporary stand in for a metal/plastic grill. I tried the transpore on the drivers, but I did not like the effect it had on the sound, everything sounded muted and boxed in. I'm still looking for medipore, as that might be the best alternative. Cable is Mogami 2534 with a 3.5mm Amphenol plug and the headband comes from a $7.50 headphone that I bought at a local music store. It's pretty much the same as a Vivitar headband.

Rhydon has a new version of his cup up on Shapeways...more rigid grill and cable eyelet.

I'm on the fence about getting a pair. Might Woody my V6 drivers instead. Got a few pieces of decent wood spare after my last couple of builds.

looks like he changed it quite a bit, recessed the earpad groove and holes for the gimbal
as well as the grill and cable outlet
