I need new headphones for around 100-150 euro. I'll be using them for 60% music and 40% gaming with my Asus Xonar DG. I listen to rock/metal, examples: Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne...

I have taken a look at the AD-700s and the Grados. The AD700s seem to be only good for gaming and the Grados only for rock.

Also, will a Fiio E10 be a big improvement over the Xonar DG? I'm thinking of buying one, but i'd still use the Xonar for gaming.

I would take a look at both the AKG 240 mk2 and 271 mk2. I've used the 240 for gaming and rock music and I was very impressed. The soundstage was huge and it has much better bass response than ad700's (which isn't saying much because 700's have zero bass) and are not as bright as the Grado's which are not for everyone. Amazon has a sale right now so I'd look there if you want a great all a rounder for a great price.

I listen to quite a lot of asian music, by that I pretty much mean a lot of Japanese with some small shreds of Chinese. I love Vocaloid, it spans many genres but more poppy and electro I guess. Also Yanagi Nagi whose voice I absolutely love When I feel like it I do listen to jazz and some orchestral/instrumental. I'm so sorry if I'm sounding weird saying that.... I think someone can make out what I mean though.  My budget is around 150USD I think converting from my currency.
 
Sorry I can't specify more, my knowledge in this field is very limited as much as I would like to get into it. I draw quite a bit hence why I'm looking for comfort almost as much as sound quality. Usually I use V Sonic GR04s with a GoVibe mini box amp off of my Samsung Galaxy Advance, so you can tell I'm not very far into this, anyway I find it uncomfortable to use in ears for long periods and not to mention the comply tips I use feel oily and I think I've spent too much money on unnecessary replacements, and that's why I started looking into headphones.

From headphones tha I have heard and felt the comfort of but not owned, I would say the Sennheiser 558 or if you can get more together the 598. However It sounds like you are intending these to be somewhat portable. So you want a full sized over-ear headphone or is on ear something you are also interested in? And are you using this on the go or in your home. Sounds like on the go. I think just a bit more info will help people make better recommendations.

Well check in your area and see if you can find the 558 in your price range. I think it would suit your needs in comfort and sound. They are an open back headphone and if you you need closed maybe one of the guys here can recommend one of the shure models in your price range..... (sorry haven't tried em). But again with the velour pads and sound sig the 558 seems like something you might enjoy.

Edit: There is even a mod on here somewhere that makes the 558 sound just like its more expensive brethren the 598 if you are into that and decide you don't like the sound. Like I said, only an option if you are into that........

Hello everyone! I just joined head-fi yesterday and have never owned a quality pair of headphones. I just bought a laptop, so I'm looking for a nice at-home/traveling pair of cans. I'm in college so I can't game very much, but I plan to game (rpg/mmo/not much competitive shooting except for mw3 maybe) and watch movies/television shows from time to time. I've never had an over-ear headphone. I'm looking at the Sony pulse because my budget is around $100-150 (if needing a USB soundcard or dac). Ive been told to look at stuff like the ath m50s, but i need some more feedback to other good beginner cans. i do fancy the idea of rotating cups haha I'm really a noob at this so thanks guys for all the knowledge!

I've had a lot of fun with modding. I think I get a bit better each time due to practice. I'm hoping to try and make a cmoy at some point too.
 
The T50rp is definitely worth it. Relatively cheap, especially for the sound you can get out of it. You can pick up the headphones and the modding material to make it sound great for about $150 total. The T50rp's driver has great potential and the mods help bring out the bass and treble. PM if want me to link to to the products. Also, check out my T50rp review for some more info.
 
I've also seen the thread about the SR60 mods but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. That's on my list of mods to try, along with the Monoprice 8323 mods.

I'd go with the Dt 990, the 880 is very detailed BUT IS NOT a bass can [I have] and I'm not sure about the E10, my cMoy 2x9V drives 250 880s very well, my e6 how ever can't drive the 880 at ALL, so check the power out from the e10, and with $500 u should be able to get 990 and a better amp if u need it

Well 668+Pads are a bit off budget for now, and I assume that the 668's aren't really worth the money without them. So i think I'll go with 681+Pads.
Anybody has tried these And the 631 as well? They seem pretty nice and sturdy, but i'd like to know if they can keep up with the 681's.
Also, I forgot to mention I listen mostly to EDM.
Apreciate any 631 feedback or other recommendations, thanks a lot !

complete newbie here when it comes to headphones. Looking to upgrade from the pair apple give you and have tried beats for a while (30 mins) and found them way to bass heavy for me. I have been reading forums and other sites and think i have it down to 3 but not sure which would be best. From what i have read lots of people praise sennheiser headphones but every pair that i see look like crap (i know this shouldn't matter but quality design factors in for me).

Portable: yes (airplaine and biking/walking). will be used with iPhone 95% of the time (inline mic for calls would be great)
Price range: 150, but really trying for under 100. 
Amped: i dont know what that means but probably no if its paired with iPhone.
Headphone preference: over the ears. I am not an audiophile by any means. I want to listen and enjoy the music, apple earbuds dont really bother me but i want to get something a bit better and i know beats are not for me either. Thanks

With a $100 budget maybe the Koss Pro Dj 100s, I hear they are a budget king, and if U have a little extra cash and fiio E6 might be decent for amping! $30 dollars and it's a little more Bass and Volume if u need

I mostly listen to jazz, blues, quite a bit of piano tracks, swing, some classical, but also some electronical. Overall quite varied but not really bass-oriented, although bass is still nice for the depth, of course.
I intend to use these headphones both for home usage and sometimes outside/away from home, although leakage is not too huge of a problem as I tend to not be in too populated places.
The design is generally not too much of a problem, but I personally find most of the sannheiser HD series to be, bluntly, ugly and that's a bit of a letdown. The design for AKG K701 for example is very nice. Subjective, of course, but perhaps those examples will give an idea of what I have in mind.
They will be connected both to a desktop and MP3 player, although it's not too huge of a deal if they don't work to their fullest with everything I use them with, but they should not be too specialised.
 
So far I have looked at Grado sr80i, but I live in europe and the price of them is far, far higher than what they are in the US. AKG K701 also seem to be quite on point of what I was looking for, but they need an amp which I simply don't have.
Anything close to what I have in mind? I'll willing to consider some deviations.

The go-to cans in you situation (based on a straight conversion to US street prices) are the Senn HD 5x8 line you don't seem to like very much, Audio Technica ATH-AD900 and closed Sony MDR-V900HD.

I'm guessing from your post that your searching for for closed headphones with a good sound stage (not an easy task).  However, we would need to know what sound signature you prefer.  The M50's have "V" shaped sound signature that produces enhanced (above neutral) bass but recessed (below neutral) mids.
