Sorry, can't help you there as I haven't tried them (the 6400). Do a search, there are tons of people around here that have them and can give you their thoughts on the comfort in fact there's probably several reviews that describe the comfort level.
 
Edit-- Hmm. I was thinking that ebay deal had free shipping but it doesn't. Not as good of a deal as I thought but still pretty great. On comfort... any closed cans with pleather or leather ear pads can have a tendency to make your ears sweaty, particularly if you're listening in hot environments for extended amounts of time. I'd look into whether people are reporting sweaty ears with the 6400s.

I don't think that's a headphone amplifier. The O2 is an open source design so there are many incarnations. I already linked you to the one I'm familiar with but there are several. Here's the link again:

The E9 is pretty well regarded and decently powerful but AFAIK its still not as powerful as the O2. Do a search (here on head-fi) to see if there's anyone using the E9 with the Hifiman planars and if they're happy with it.
 
Edit-- Actually, it looks like the E9 is a bit more powerful than the O2 and would probably be a decent option.

yeah, it would be $28 for shipping internationally. Still a good deal but I'm still unsure if these are the headphones for me.

The Shure 840 really isn't portable, just because it so big. The 440, not a whole better, maybe a little. 
 
I noticed a ways back about the E10. I have it and it makes a wonderful DAC (especially considering the price). The amp on the other hand...not its strong point. It's enough to power fairly low impedance cans but nothing particuarly high. I would suggest buying the E10 as a DAC and then running a line out into a desktop amp.

thanks for all the help Do you think the O2 or e9 would be the cheapest possible amp to reach the he-400s full potential? Its impedance is only 35 ohms,correct me if im wrong though. Is there a specific DAC you recommend to me since I dont own one yet?

Hey, once again I thought I'd try posting to get some help picking out some headphones. I live in Canada so shipping is a concern, and I can go up to around $150. I want a pair of headphones that are good for gaming (just casual mmo type games, not fps), as well as music, and preferably closed as I will be taking them around with me and don't want a lot of sound leakage. With that being said, I would like a pair of headphones that are portable, whether it be in a carrying case or around my neck (if it's going to have to be around my neck, hopefully nothing large). currently am the owner of Audio Techno ATH-AD700. got them on sale and i enjoy them, but the fullness of the bass is obviously completely gone. Not to say I'm a bass head, but I enjoy it being at least semi-there. that said, I've also owned Koss PortaPros, Skullcandy Aviators, and JVC HA-M750 in the past. The PortaPros are great on the go, as are the Aviators, but both don't really suit my fancy. the HA-M750s were way too bass bloated.

not a bass head, so that's not a problem. i think any headphone would give me more bass than the AD-700, and that'd be fine. i enjoy the punch the PortaPros can deliver and i know for sure those aren't bass heavy.
 
so do you have any recommendation based on the information i've given?
