[Rezound Sound]

Are the Denon AH-NC800's good? I could get a used pair from amazon for less than $200 right now. Are they better than the B&W P5's? How much sound do they leak out?

I'm not a huge rap fan, but obviously don't want something that's weak on bass, but at the same time don't want overpowering bass on my rock, alt, and indie music. I always was under the impression that the 595 were pretty neutral. Not sterile, but neutral.
 
Maybe I need something pretty all-purpose since these are gonna run the gauntlet purpose and genre-wise. 

It should work ok, as I've heard they're nice all-rounders, but if the bass bothers you perhaps look into the Brainwavz HM5s or the Senn HD598s.

Maybe the AKG K81DJ? That's supposed to be pretty bassy, though if you just want bass and nothing else, the Sony XB500 would do it too.

Yep... That is a all in one day . So what was the conclusion? I bought a pair of Triple Fi 10's from Amazon for 120 pounds. And I think that Shure SE215 is probably the best sounding sub 100 USD for the iPhone without an amp. It will be my recommendation for my friends when they ask me what to get. Since non-audophiles will not spend half a fortune on headphones and probably loose them, break them, through them around a bit and wants to use them as a portable headphone without an amp and probably with an MP3-player or mobile phone I think the SE215 is ideal for them. Moreover I do like the Grado sound but they are way to uncomfortable for me. I can not hear a different between the SE535 and the K3003. The D5000 is the best sounding closed headphone I have heard. The TMA-1 sounds really, really nice but are seriously muddy to my ears. If you want a portable and great sounding headphone without bloated bass that work straight out from an iPhone, the Headfi community is right, just get tha HD25-II 1 or the Originals version (or wait for the Amperior .) and be done with it. Unfortunately I have a liking for bass and they do have great punch and quickness but not the impact I am looking for. I think I am one of the few people here that actually like the Beats. Not the Solos or Studios thou, but the Pros. To me they are not worth the asking price but for a bit less my opinion is that they are a great package of style, comfort, bass, treble, midrange and portability. They look really good compared to most headphones. They do not sound that good thou. But if you want a bassy sound with a lot of impact and too much color of the midrange then these are pretty good. They are more comfortable then all the other headphones I have tried (Yes, I do like the strong clamping force). They seem to be well built. And since I travel a lot they block out a respectful amount of unwanted sound. So I will save up for a pair of Beats Pro or try to listen to the Audio Technica ATH M50. Maybe I will wait for the Beats Executives, Philips Fidelio L1 or the very exciting Parrot Zik headphones. Anybody got any adwise?

Umm, what's the question? The main thing about the Beats Pro is that they're mostly just overpriced, and the build is questionable, given the record of the other Beats models. For style, maybe those new models in Jude's CES interviews could help, as well as some V-Modas like the M80s or the M100s, when they come out. The M50s sound pretty good for the price, but look a bit awkward when worn. For more bass, though, I've heard the new V-Moda LP2s have fixed the muddiness, but are still bass-heavy.

I think that should work, but why do you want this particular pair? By all accounts, there's no advantage to surround sound in headphones, and a good stereo pair should do just as well or even better. Just something to think about.

I found a few pairs of HD650s for about $300, but i've heard that a good amp should be bought with them. I'm not against this, since it'd be nice to have one for my desktop and laptop in college. So, a generally good set that can be used at home and in public for music (rock, alt, indie and some modern rap and such), monitoring, and movies/media.
 
Sure, i couldn't use open-backs to study, but why limit myself, i could always pick up a cheaper pair for those rare instances. "Best" all-round pair for ~$300, give or take $100, new or used, amp or no amp.

HD598 seems to fit your budget, and you could get an E10 to go along with them.

I am a newbie at audio and my laptop wont sound as clean as my clip+... I also have better bass control. Now I have a e7 dac/amp but when i use it as an amp i can pull out more bass, when I used it as a DAC it sounds a little muddled.
 
Is there somethign I should be using with DAC such as a different equalizer or something???

Try the E10. Also, are you sure you're hooking up the E7 correctly? It should be an improvement over your laptop sound card.

Add the GR07s and FXT90s, which have excellent bang-for-buck. The TF10 sounds like it would fit your music too, though the UE700 might sound bass-anemic.

Do you need the ANC? It only jacks up the price and degrades sound quality, so unless you're a constant flier, a passively isolating pair might be a better choice. The P5s, for example are not ANC, but isolate very well. I don't think you'll have any issues of sound leakage with any closed headphones.

Ok, yeah just checking... Maybe test out the E10, it's supposed to have a better DAC and amp than the E7. Also it's cheaper cuz it's not portable, just transportable.

I've also been having some fatigue problems with my 595 lately. Not sure if its the fit or the sound itself, but it's gotten more noticeable recently. I have pretty sensitive (not discerning, but i hear noises that are beyond most people's hearing range) hearing, so it may be some type of upper end issue that sits behind the music, but is still present. Like the pink noise coming from my car stereo.

Well, I've read that the 598 is indeed significantly better than the 595, and the sound signature might be more versatile than the 650s, especially without proper amping. However, $300 for the 650s is a pretty good deal. Also, the 650 won't run unamped, whereas the 598 doesn't, though it sounds better with one.

I'm new to Head-Fi, so please excuse any Audiophile Faux-Pas.
 
I had a pair of Sennheiser HD 218s for about 8 months before the jack broke. I have had to use $12 Sony headphones from Walmart ever since.
It's probably pretty obvious by now that I want to upgrade.
 
I have a budget of ~$325. I listen mostly to Rush, but sometimes Daft Punk, deadmau5, and such show up in my library. I also have to go through 10-18 hour-long bus rides for school trips, so I am looking for something VERY comfortable.
 
I have been looking at Audio Technica ATH-M50 for a while, but I was looking for a detachable cable for painless replacement.
 
I made up my mind to go for Shure's SRH940s, unless someone interjects here.
 
Please help ASAP!

The 940s might not have enough bass for your electronic music, so maybe keep looking. The Denon D2000s seem to fit your bill quite nicely, except for the lack of detachable cable.

I'm looking for a nice budget set of phones for around $50. I'm looking for ones that would be good for gaming mostly rpg's and single player games. And my taste in music is mostly rock, classical, and orchestra's. I would like something with a nice sound stage without a ton of bass im not really a bass nut some is ok but if its too much I start getting annoyed with it. And on the opposite side I don't want a lot of treble either.
 
Sadly I don't live anywhere close to somewhere that i could try out any headphones closest place would be about 2 hours away. And as i dont have a car its almost impossible to get there XD

Looking for new headphones to wear at work, use with an iMac (no amp). I generally listen to rock and country with podcasts thrown in from time to time. Budget is around $60 but I'll go up to $100 if it is worth it.
 
Right now I am looking at the Beyerdynamic DT235 and the AKG K 518. I really like the CAL! but at ~$20 more I am not sure it is worth it. 
 
I am also considering getting a refurb HD203 off Amazon now ($13) and waiting for beyer to throw another DT770 on eBay. 
 
I am coming from cheap $5 earbuds so I am sure whatever I end up with will be a vast improvement, but I want to make the right choice.
 
Please help me choose?
