Trying to find an upgrade for my Denon AH-D1001, if possible something that can be used both at home (working on the computer) and on the train/buss.
 
I own a FiiO E5 that I'm using with my samsung galaxy (voodoo soundfix/kernel) as my source. 
 
My budget is about 500$.
 
The Denons have served me very well, but I'm looking for a higher-end replacement. I love how the Denon fit (very loose, perfect for my headshape), but they are worn out by constant use.
 
Musicwise I listen to anything from metal to ambience to hiphop, so anything too specialised would probably hurt.

Hi, sorry for creating new thread asking for help, i got one reply only but i need more and clear details please, so kindly see the requirement of me and reply,
 
i decided to buy new headphones which are primerly used for my Dell XPS 17" 3D Laptop (watching blue-ray movies, Latest 3d gaming like MW3 & Latest music) and for my iPhone to listen music while i am outside. i have no experience with any of best sound providing headphones, i was searching for nice head phones which can give me every possible detail in music and can make me feel the experience of new sounds that i never heared before (far better than iPhone's headset i mean).
Please i don't want in-ear type or too small and uncomfortable since i play alot of latest games regularly on laptop.
Price range is around $ 50. (less pricey is better..

 
Please help me out to buy my new amazing headphonese and join in league of audiophiles..

i saw few headphones on Amazon but dont know which are best among them and will fit for my requirement.
i never tried any good headphones before. so this is gona be my very first branded headphones, i hope you guys give your best advice to noob who is music lover and avid gamer.
Here is list:
1. Audio-Technica ATH-M30
2. Beyerdynamic-DT-235 And DTX-35
3. Sennheiser-HD-202-Dynamic-Headphones
4. Grado SR60i
5. Panasonic HTF-600
 
Please feel free to advice if any other model/brand is better than these listed above. Plz include pros/cons for all, your help and guidance is much appreciated.

$50 isn't going to get you into the audiophile league, buddy.
It depends on what you want to use them for e.g movies, games, new music is very vague
I haven't heard any of those, but from other peoples impressions I'd go with the HTF-600's

Best headphones up to 50$ are definitely Superlux HD668B.

But you won't get anything special for 50$, you wont "hear stuff that you never heard before".
 
If you could go a little higher, 80$,  get Grado SR60i or    Sony MDR-XB500.

I'm looking to buy some headphones.
My budget is around 250$ and I will mostly use them for listening to music(classical, electronic and metal) and playing games.
I am also planning to buy an Asus xonar essence STX soundcard. I don't know much about headphones and such so I appreciate any help I can get.

A DAC/amp combo is roughly equivalent to an external sound card, though the E7 and E17 will sound better than something like a Xonar U3/Creative X-Fi Go, and probably better than the higher end Creative options as well.  The only real differences between external sound cards and USB DAC/amps (apart from sound quality) is that the sound card will have a microphone input.  If you want to use a microphone with a USB DAC, you'll have to plug it into the microphone jack on your onboard card and set up your sound options to use that as the input.  You can still use the USB DAC as the output though; this is how I have mine set up.
 
And if you can afford it, get the E17.  It's better in all respects than the E7.

Before I start, I'll say that I don't listen to too much metal, and what I do listen to couldn't be classified as Death/Doom/Sludge metal, so I may be slightly off on my recommendations.
 
I think the HD600/650 might be a bit slow for your music.  They do good bass reproduction, but they're more of a relaxed, laid-back sound.  Faster parts of the songs might sound a little jumbled and muddy, especially if there are several instruments playing at once.  The D2000 is a bit faster and does excellent bass reproduction, but it still might be slow.  It also has slightly recessed mids.  The DT880 is more of a neutral headphone (not too much bass quantity, though I'm uncertain about the level of impact).  If you get the 600-ohm version, you'll also need a fairly powerful amp to drive them.  At least an E7/17 + E9 combo.  Of the Beyerdynamics, the DT990 might be closer to what you're looking for.  I've heard good things about the woodied FA-002, but those have been mostly in relation to classical.  Again, they might be too slow for metal, though I've never heard them, so I may be wrong.
 
Of the ones on your list that I've heard, the Denons definitely have the most bass impact and highest quality bass.

I've ordered Beyerdynamics DT770 but I wont' get them until the end of February so I'm wondering if there are any other ones in the same price range that offers the same audio quality.
 
 
Usage: Music, melodeath only. I currently use Sennheiser PC350(primarily bought for gaming) and an Astro Mixamp(also primarily bought for gaming but it's better than my PA2V2 pocket amp so it's used for music too 

). These headphones sound good and all but they're made for gaming and lack a bit of bass. Of course I would like some more bass but not ridiculously über much.
 
Portability and durability: Not a main issue, wouldn't sacrifice SQ for this as they're pretty much only gonna be used at home and occasionally in a car.
 
Design: Preferably over-ear but on-ear would do as well. It's also required that they're closed as I'm mainly gonna be using them in an environment with other people around.
 
Budget: $250. I do as mentioned earlier have an Astro Mixamp 

 I'd prefer if the phones could be driven by that instead of buying a separate one. Buying an amp is also a considered option but it'd have to remain within the budget.
 
Comfort: They should be comfortable enough to be used for many hours in a row. This is why Sennheiser HD25 aren't an option for me, I'm wearing glasses and they're supposed to clamp really hard then. I've previously owned AKG K518 and after a couple of hour with them it starts hurting up where the headband sits on the head. This is something I don't want to experience again but I most likely won't as most headphones have padded headbands, just wanted to throw it out there.
 
Having all that in mind, is there any other headphones around the same price that offers the same quality. I don't want till the end of February but I will if the DT770s are the best ones I can get.

I am a sound-stage whore, and I prefer to use headphone for Jazz/classical/vocal type of music. Any recommendations? I am open to both closed and open backs. I prefer clarity over full bass.
 
From my own research here, I am leaning towards AKG Q701, but I am afraid my amp won't be enough. Is my amp sufficient? Or should I just get an Audio Technical AD700?
