None of those but the beats are going to be suitable for on the go use.  The Denons are going to get beat to crap unless you carry them around in a Pelican case and the HD600s will provide no isolation and broadcast your music to everyone on the bus.  You'd need a pretty beefy portable amp to get any decent volume out of the 600s as well.

Have you considered IEMs?

Does anyone know how easy it is to drive Ultrasone PRO 550 S-Logic headphones and whether they require an amp?  I know that at that price level almost all headphones benefit from amplification, but I want to know whether lack of amplifier will only mean having to turn up the sound volume couple more notches or will they simply be unlistenable like 600ohm Beyers?

Thanks for your answer! Okey, is there any other you would recommend me of buying? I will after all use them mostly at home. I have considered IEMs, still are...But if there are any headphones that fits my needs, I would prefer it!

I'm looking for a pair of full size, over ear, open and hopefully balanced cans.

I'm basically looking for some good quality headphones that will last me a long time without spending more than 100$.

Leak of sound is not a concern here since I'm going to use them in quiet environments.

I mostly listen to rock, jazz and punk, but I also enjoy classical, blues and reggae music.

After some research, this is what I end up with:

Either the Grado RS60i or the RS80i (not sure about the difference; need some explanation)

Sennheiser HD 555

Or Sennheiser HD 595 which seems to be out of my price range although I've read wonders about it.

Hope you can help

Thanks

I find a lot of the clutter on this thread is people who have received answers to their inquiries, and then come back to reconfirm with everyone else yet again and again.

I know what the counter-argument to this is; it's that you want to be absolutely sure you're buying the right headphone, but the fact is the vast majority of recommendations on this thread are all tried-and-true models and you can't really go wrong with any of them.

I could use a little more advice as well, someone offered me an HD 380 pro which fits the majority of my wants and needs, but I've also been eyeballing the DT440

what ever should i do :[

I dont know if you are referring to me, but if thats the case, I haven't receive any answers yet, and if I had, I wouldn't be asking for advice.

So I've had my HD-555's for quite some time now and they've treated me well, however I'm kind of wanting a different pair. I recently started listening to a lot of House and Dubstep so I'm looking for some headphones with a ton of bass. I don't have an amp, and I would rather not get one unless it's a cheap one, I'll be driving it from my PC 99% of the time. I'm considering either the XB-500 or the DT770 right now, any other recommendations or feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Alright guys. I had a buying itch yesterday. I figured, I got such a good deal on my RS1's, why not add another set to the line up? But, I want to make it another set of cans that were distinctly another pair of cans.

Something different tonally, than the RS1. I'm planning on spending 4-500, and so far my thoughts are: Grado HF2 (yes, I know they're Grado, but tonally different than RS1), Denon AHD5000 (I've heard great stuff about this one, I'm only worried that the closed casing will limit soundstage), HD650 or Audio Technica AD2000.

My initial thoughts push me to the HF2, because I think it would be cool to own two Grados with two different sounds. I also like the Denon D5000 because I know both them, and the HF2 are fairly easy to push from an amp, which is also the same reason I'm swaying further from the HD650 and AD2000 because I'm still using my RA1 to drive my cans, because 90% of my usage is from my laptop while sitting on the couch, where there isn't much room for a larger amp.

Definitely get a non-Grado (I own RS-1, HF-1, owned SR225, SR60) - their signature is very similar across the board.  I also have the D5000/D7000 and HD600, which have very different sounds, which I have grown to enjoy more than the Grados in many ways.  They are extremely versatile and more balanced imo, especially the HD600.  Each have their strengths, but I find myself using the HD600 80% of the time, D7000 10% of the time, RS-1 5% of the time and others (D5000, SRH840, HF-1) 5% of the time.  So I say get the Senns.  Get them used & if they don't work with your amp sell them for almost the same price & get the Denons, which are guaranteed to work great with a low ohm SS amp.

Thanks for the input! I wish I had heard this earlier as I am in the process of closing a deal with a head-fi'er right now for some HF-2's. I still haven't heard the HF2's for myself but I've read countless times that they're sound is a fair amount different than Grado's traditional sound signature, by having more emphasis on the lower end. But again, I can't confirm this because I haven't heard them for myself.

If you, or anyone other head-fi'er has heard/own/auditioned both, please give me you're two cents. I know, I know, there's been countless threads, but a quick two/three sentence breakdown would be nice, just to confirm the notable difference between the two, so I don't feel stupid for owning both.

Grado won't do very well with jazz/classical. With your broad musical taste, go for all-around typed headphones like Fischer Audio FA-004 or FA-003 (004 is cheaper than 003) or Beyerdynamic DT-440 (I don't know why, but this model isn't that known here. DT-440 is middle ground between in-your-face Grado and safely middle-back-row senn).

Quick question. Been reading up on the site, but thought I'd just ask outright.

I'm looking to try out some Senns.

I have a pair of closed Sony MDR V6's that I love. Love the fit and durability but wish that they had a little more of an open sound.

I have a pair of Grado SR80's. Great sound but HATE the design and comfort. I've had them a long time.

I'd like a pair of Senn's max $200 used. Any suggestions? Just go for the HD 600?

Consider also Ultrasone DJ series. Maybe this help a little: http://www.headfonia.com/closed-cans-shootout-m-50-esw-9-t50p-hd25-1-beats-studio-srh-840-srh-750dj-k181dj-and-dj1pro/2/

What music do you listened to? what kind sound you liked best (bassy, warm, bright?) DT-440 is middle ground between in-your-face Grado sound and middle-back-row Senn sound. In simple example: between Grado SR80 and senn HD555.

Do you have amplifier? HD600 is kinda need amp for sings.... why not try some lower-end model like HD555 (which with simple mod could sounded like higher model HD595) first?

I have a Millet Hybrid amp, so I can power the cans. I guess my question would be: how much better is the HD555/595 going to sound than the 600? If "not that much" then the upgrade probably isn't worth it to me at this time.

AKG 240 studio. great headphone and well balanced. people tend to say these have a midrange emphasis but it seems like that cause it has very natural bass. sounds great with jazz and classical and basically anything i threw at them. they sell for 100 dollars online and local(if you have a guitar center)
