Haha so ok, lets say on a scale of 1-10 the M50's bass is a 10. What number would the 840 be? Not really a fan of how the DT 770's look.

I don't know that this approach is the correct way to address the issue, but OK--I'll play.

Where the M50 is 10 and neutral bass is 5, I'd put the 840 at a 7 or maybe a few tenths less.

Damn that's a pretty serious difference. I think I'll stick to the M50's, I think I can champ out the comfort. I just notice however that amazon sells M50 S and M50. What's the difference?

  1. Akg 701/702- as i understand it these are the same thing with detachable cables. I cant seem to get a good handle on the sound signature so if some one can provide an explantion of that as well as there usefulness for rock.

AKG K701, Q701, K701 are the same familie, but Q701 and K702 use shorter toleranced drivers (capsules) and have detachable cables.
Q701 and K702 have a little bit other tuning (as AKG says).

You can found the service documents (part lists) of all AKG products here

Straight vs. coiled cable--and usually the price.  That's it.

hi - currently got a pair of AD900 but I feel that they are a bit uncomfortable for longer periods, as the driver/mesh touch my ears... so I'm either asking: is there any way to fix this, any pads that fit or so that would help?
if not:
what are some good, not too bass heavy, not too tame treble, with preferably forward mid range (or at least very nice and smooth/seductive(?)) headphones for maximum 300 bucks?
I'll be using them primarily for gaming and watching movies. I wouldn't mind sound isolation, but doesn't have to be closed. if there is some alternative in-between, that'd be great. (my AD900 leak everything, which I'm not a big fan of)
comfort really is the biggest issue here, since after watching one movie with my AD900, my ears tend to feel a bit sore...
I do really like the AD900's engaging "fast" sound, something in the same lines as that would be great.

so, in short: nice midrange 'phones for gaming, videos/movies, comfort is the biggest factor here.

I do have an M^3 that I will run them with, so if it's a question about power, I have it!

Thanks

hi sorry for quoting myself but the comfort is making me sad and desperate... anyone know if the W1000X are anything like the AD900, but... closed-sound?

Hey, I'm looking for a pair of headphones to be used for gaming and music (alt rock/jazz mostly) about 50/50 split. I generally play FPSs.
Comfort is important. Open/closed doesn't matter. ~$100 Canadian is my budget; a lot of good headphones seem to be way more expensive here than in the US.

I'm looking at getting the KSC75 and then getting the Monoprice
8323 as a spare set/for music. CAL! is also another possibility.

I love the look of the sr60i/ms-1, but I understand they aren't good for gaming and I'm not sure if want to drop that kind of cash for headphones just for music yet.

Hard for many of us in the U.S. to fully grasp Canadian pricing and total amount a can will cost when you finally get in on your ears. [Whatever happened to NAFTA?!]  With all that in the rear view mirror, the CAL! remains a good and versatile can in its price class.  Of those you mentioned, it is the best choice for your articulated uses.

What's uncomfortable about the M50s? I haven't tried them out so I don't know how they feel. I've heard the DT 250 velour pads fit on them which might increase their comfort.
