I guess I should technically join this club , even though I pretty much hated the DT990 pro I had.

Also the DT250-80 I had, although a much needed workhorse at the time, was not anything special ..

The DT48 on the other-hand ..well you know,

The 48 turned me into a believer too.. I owned the 770/880/990, & thought they were nice, but nothing great.. Meaning.. Nothing flagship wise.. Then I got my 48 & Beyerdynamic shot up to number 1.. If a 60 plus yr old headphone can embarrass modern flag ship headphones (IMO) that means something.

Actually, after some more research, it seems I've got the newer DT770 PRO 250s.

I was misled by the photos/remarks posted by Landis and Skylab, it seems?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 770 PROs pictured above as being the "older ones," are actually the newer ones? And the second pair pictured are actually the '05 consumer model (not the pro ones?)

It seems the main difference between the old/new 770 PRO models (in addition to the lettering and fonts used on the sides of the driver encasements), is the L/R labeling, which now includes braille on the newer ones?

Here's a pic of the older 770 Pros, as far as I can tell:

And here's the newer ones?:

Yes...you have it right - those are the older and newer pro versions. I went back and edited my post just now - I should have been more clear. The Versions in Landis's pics are the 2005 PRO version on top, and the 2005 CONSUMER version on the bottom.

This would explain why you don't find them to be bass monsters

just an update, no significant change in the tightness...DAMN this things are built like a tank!

I'm still getting headaches from the discomfort of wearing it.

I'm thinking of selling this now for a price of mini-iPod.

I guess I can still say its a hardly used DT770 Pro 80ohm.

Is there any love for the DT100?
I just put new velour earpads on the used DT100 I bought some weeks ago.
And I love them.
I'm very pleased with both sound and comfort.
Their sound is quick, clear, airy, detailed, toetapping and light on bass, but the bass is at least tight. Sort of DT770 consumer edition without the harsh highs and sibilance.

I love all three of my Beyerdynamics.
dt880smile.png

The 880s are nice for gaming and some of my music (though a tad too bassy unfortunately), the 48Es are nice for a fair chunk of my music, and I like my 770s with metal.

I never intended to get three Beyerdynamic pairs... I mean, I love other companies, too. It just sort of happened... The 770s were meant to be an alternative to the HD650s I had at the time, I got the 880s because I heard good things about them for gaming, and the DT48E had always beein intriguing because of how it was a ~50 year old niche product hailed by some as king of mid-fi (speaking price-wise, not performance-wise), so when it came up for a reasonable price from a trustworthy member, I couldn't resist. I am not in any way loyal to Beyerdynamic, they just happened to fit the bill three times in a row. Up next for me is Grado or AKG.

hopefully I'll be getting mine this week, I love my 770 but some uber-comfy pads would be the icing on the cake

Glad you like... All 3 headphones sound different enough to enjoy many different genres..770 for dance and hip hop. The DT880 for classical and the DT48 for vocal presentation, acoustics and Jazz.

Well, I might point out that it is a DT770 '05 consumer edition, which is known for being much more balanced than its pro counterpart but with very harsh treble (not really a dance or hip hop phone IMO). Compared to my others it is a little thin and harsh-sounding, but it works well with metal.

I just bought some DT-880 '05, and they are great. My previous headphones are Sennheiser's HD555 and I can really hear the difference between those two. The DT-880 are more detailed and it is easier to hear the different sounds in the music, it is nice!

I also just ordered a Meier CORDA SWING head amp, I am so looking forward to recieve that!
