You should post some pics when you get it.

I had planned on branching out more with my next headphone purchase, but as my sig suggests, I have done nothing of the sort, instead I've moved up the Beyer line to the DT990, and I'm very happy I did!

Since I haven't gotten too many Beyer enthusiasts flying by my indecisive thread, I figure this would be the best place to come for a quick question:

DT770 Pro/80 or DT770 Pro/250? I like bass, but I also listen to a wide variety of music and I like clear mids very much. A good soundstage is a must (don't know if those two differentiate that much)

Any thoughts? I haven't been entirely successful in finding too many accurate reviews on the 250, but it's quite clear that the 80 is a "bass monster" and for all I know, the 250 could be a walrus that shoots drivers out of its eyes.

Any help is appreciated and that picture of Knopfler and pals pretty much sold me.

Yayyy I recently bought a used DT990 pro 600 ohm!

But I only have a Creative Audigy 2 NX to drive it...lol.

I mostly listen to music through laptop so I probably need a USB-DAC to drive it. Or just an amp connected to my sound card to drive the 990. My budget is $300 and I would prefer used items lol.

Well, Knopfler was wearing the Pro 80's

The thing of it is, they sound VERY, very different (the Pro 80 versus the 2005 "Consumer" 250 ohm version). The 770/250 has WAY less bass, and a much more forward/aggressive treble. I actually couldn't quite handle the 770/250, in spite of liking many thing about it. I sold them and got some 600 ohm versions and then modded them, and those I love, but if I had to choose between the cans stock, I would chose the Pro 80.

I was actually talking about the Pro 250ohm version, not the consumer 2005.

Modding is very unlikely as I'm certainly not qualified and there don't seem to be many places around my city that actually openly advertise it.

But thanks for the suggestion, I saw your collection and it has enough Hifi-balls to suffocate me.

The (older) PRO 250 ohm version sounds like crap. Stay away from it.

Thanks for the heads up!

Funny story, I was out earlier today and I bought a pair.

At least I can break them in and give them a shot, the fella said I can return them within 30 days, so hey, we'll see! On the other hand, they did have the DT770 Pro/80, but they're trying to sell that friggin' thing for $275 there, so I slapped the salesman in the face and spat on his shoes; not really, but maybe if he had done something to deserve it.

Also, I probably should have looked into this earlier, but do you think an HT Omega Claro Halo's headphone amp has enough awesomeness in it to properly sexify some apparently bad/good headphones?

Also, Skylab, what exactly is the issue with the DT770 Pro/250?

Well, if we are talking about the 2005 version of the DT770/250, it might be great. But the older version had the most recessed mids and most overblown bass of any DT770. But the 2005 Pro version is much closer to the 2005 Consumer version, I believe. There IS NO 2005 version of the Pro-80.

Anyone else here own a set of the beyerdynamic IRS 690s from the early 90's: infrared wireless headphones - similar looks to the original DT990s? Still sound good to me

Hmph, from what I read the Pro/250ohm didn't have the boomy bass of the Pro/80ohm.

I'm assuming the Pro/250 2005 version looks like the other consumer models opposed to having the black enclosure like the Pro/80s? i.e. the normal "older" DT770/250ohms look like this:

And the 2005 Pro/250 would look like this?:

Why are there so many versions with the same model number? GAWD.

DT770M
DT770 Pro/80
DT770 Pro/250
DT770 Pro/250 2005
DT770 2005 Consumer

But in all seriousness, sweet Jesus, those velour pads feel like a baby's furry-ass being rubbed on my head; I love it!

This is also what I've gathered from the research I did before purchasing the Pro/250ohm. The bass is supposed to be less-boomy and more controlled than the Pro/80 version, according to many impressions people have posted. I can definitely see how the Pro/250 can still be considered to have boomy bass, but at the same time I can see how some people would still want more bass quantity than the Pro/250's have.

I posted this on the main forum but thought people here could answer better.

I've noticed a rattling sound in the right headphone especially with low bass. Read that this could be a hair stuck somewhere on the driver the problem is getting to the driver. I took the earpad off and am now staring at the white circular paper protecting whatever is behind. Its glued on pretty tight so the question is do I rip this off or do I access the driver from the other side (grill side)? Cant quite figure out how to get to the hair if there even is one there. Anyone here who has opened up the dt440 before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
