Thank you! thank you! I see that I'm in great company (well I'm not so sure about that Hi-Finthen character!)....

How many hours did it take for yours to finally settle in?

I have some really old 990's, like from the 80's.
Anyone here compared these old ones to the 2005 model?

I'm taking a leap here, but I would assume the 2005 model would be "slightly" better????

What I seem to remember about them is their being less dynamic than later incarnations. But, Plainsong is a member who has had extensive experience with them and certainly be more concise..........2003 was a step backwards, and the 2005 is easily the best........even better 2005 600Ω.

I just got my DT990.I'm a second owner.
Is it the 2005 version?
I found the bass is very tight and it's more laid back compared to my MS-Pro.
Love'em .

Good lord, the synergy between these phones and the Opera is STUNNING!! I will have to post a full impression when I come down off my auditory high!

I also find the synergy between the 990 and the Benchmark DAC1 to be great.

I have no doubt that the Opera as amp would be better than the DAC1 headamp, but could someone describe what the differences would be tonally and otherwise. Thanks in advance.

Just received my brand new DT990's from B&H Photo today.
I am VERY impressed with them straight out of the box!
They are on the bright side right now, but I've got 'em burning in.
They have tremendous detail and EXCELLENT bass response!

The top-end is alittle brighter than the 880's, but them actually seem more detailed and have alot better bass punch than the 880's.
They are slightly more recessed in the mids than the 880's, but I like that.
They actually seem easier to drive than my 880's for some reason?
Can't wait to get a couple of hundred hours burn-in on them.

Great cans, eh? LOL, did you say couple of hundred hours? They require that much to settle in? I've seen a post that said 100, I'm curious as to how much the HF settles and the bass tightens up within that time.

Yeah, I usually give all my new phones 200 hours of burn-in just to make sure they have reached their full potential before giving them a critical evaluation.
It may be over kill, but I usually do it just for the heck of it.
The AKG K701's are an exception, they require over 300 hours.
I will give the 990's a listen about Wednesday of next week and see how much it has progressed...Boy its hard to resist listening to them!
I want to make sure there are real changes to the sound, instead of just psychological adjustments to them.
I will tell you what, their is DEFINITELY no veiling of the sound at all on these headphones!

Yeah, it's great how the bass has presence, BUT doesn't overpower the lower-mids, or any other frequency!!

I'm going to listen throughout the burn in process, I can't resist!
