Just my opinion, but I don't the sounds changes very much (if at all) from burn in.
Personally, I think you just get acclimatized to the Q701 sound and start using them for recordings that compliment them and use the M50s for recordings that work well with them.........at least thats's what I do with my Q701 and DT880................
The comfort thing, I think the Qs are ultra comfortable.

I thought the same when I was burning in my K701s.  But burning in the Q701 when I had the K701 that has literally thousands of hours on it, I can say that out of the box they sound very different.  After 3+ days of burn in, where I did not listen to the Qs at all, they were just playing on their own, the Q and the K sound very similar.  I didn't change, and I have been used to the sound for years.  The Qs did all of the changing there, and it was dramatic if you are adverse to harsh treble.

think I might order the NFB 15.1 - do you guys think NFB-15 fits equally well with the Q701 as NFB-12?

(currently playing with pc -> E17 -> Q701)

the NFB-15 seems like steal, seeing as you get both an AMP and DAC.

Do the Q701 have a laid back sound? and what sort of music are they good for?

Not sure what constitutes "laid-back", but they're slightly warm and have a distant sounding soundstage.

Most people would agree they're good for classical, jazz, soundtrack, etc.   I also like them for electronic ambient stuff.  Music that takes advantage of their soundstage seems to do well.

I just bought the q701 headphones for 235$ Great deal to get it for around Christmas time. These headphones are the best I've owned so far. They sound excellent with the fiio e7 amp of mine. The only problem is that the headband at the top starts to hurt my head after a few hours of use. The other problem is that they are not very portable, as expected, they are huge headphones. I would recommend these because they are a big upgrade from my last pair of headphones, the cheap, kicker hp541 head phones.

How do you guys think of the Q701 for classical music?

If there are Organs or a Double Bass involved... even big Drumms... you'll hate 'em.
I remain, the K/Q 70X series only selling point is the visual design. Every one of the newer Sennheiser 5XX Series does everything better (in terms of SQ), really.
Not even taling about the HD6XX series.

(yeah, I owned the K701, sold it and kept my K240 Sextetts. Heard several Q701 on several AMPs... not hating on AKG, they just aren't "good~ish")

I own a pair of these and put jay-z on them. I never knew that jay-z didn't use bass in his music. These are only good for classical music. Meaning songs without bass these cans really shine. Put a song with bass in them and you will be bored. Will be saying where are my beats by dre at
