I thought the same when I was burning in my K701s. But burning in the Q701 when I had the K701 that has literally thousands of hours on it, I can say that out of the box they sound very different. After 3+ days of burn in, where I did not listen to the Qs at all, they were just playing on their own, the Q and the K sound very similar. I didn't change, and I have been used to the sound for years. The Qs did all of the changing there, and it was dramatic if you are adverse to harsh treble.
Just my opinion, but I don't the sounds changes very much (if at all) from burn in.
Personally, I think you just get acclimatized to the Q701 sound and start using them for recordings that compliment them and use the M50s for recordings that work well with them.........at least thats's what I do with my Q701 and DT880................
The comfort thing, I think the Qs are ultra comfortable.
