    USB soundcard from Turtle Beach

I use one under Linux into a Lavry DA10 and it works flawlessly. My only complaint is the bright blue LED, but that is a pet peeve of mine. It doesn't resample everything to 48khz as has been erroneously stated previously and is pretty much plug-and-play (at least for the 16/44 audio and stereo...

Recommend me a USB to optical S/PDIF device

I use a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II for optical SPDIF out to my DAC and use Debian Linux (pretty similar to Ubuntu). It worked out of the box with the version of ALSA I had installed and is bit perfect under Linux, at least (contrary to popular opinion it does NOT resample everything...

Current or ex-SA5000 owners that switched to a different "main can", question

I had the SA5000s for a few months after the K1000s and, while the detail was nice and the response was ok, no amount of modification could get rid of the reverberations I heard with them. This made it such that the headphones never "disappeared" and that's really what I want. Nothing really...

new firmware for the Apogee MiniDAC’s USB board

this is truly great as that (loss of sync using coreaudio apps) has been the only problem i've had with my minidac, though infrequent enough to not really be an issue. it's great of them to actually replace the firmware for free rather than provide a software patch or something.

Why doesn't everyone here have AKG K1000?

I was forced to sell mine because they essentially offered none of the advantages of headphones with many of the inconveniences of speakers in my opinion. As an example, you can't listen in the same room as someone else without driving them crazy (much moreso than with regular open headphones)...

    Echo Indigo?

The Indigo doesn't have a digital output, so no, you won't be able to connect a DAC in the future. That said, its analog output isn't bad (for the price). Also, the fact that it can handle 24/96 really doesn't reflect on the sound quality, but if your source material is higher-resolution this...

Help me with the DAC decision (RME|Benchmarek|apogee|mytek)

I had the ADI-2 and I have the Apogee now. While the ADI was very good for the money (and there aren't too many in that gap between >$1000 and <$500), the Apogee simply outclasses it in detail and smoothness. The treble also seems more evident on the Apogee, though not overly so. The...

    Good source for SA5's?

I use a Mini-DAC with my SA5000s and although I don't have any high end digital sources to compare at the moment, I really don't think this setup is at all "too slow." Especially with closely mic'ed acoustic guitar, the detail is just as mind-boggling as usual, though not overly intrusive...

Share Your ER4 Tri-Flange Mods, Please

I cut the largest flange off on mine (so they're now "biflanges"). I did this because I find the Shure soft flex sleeves to sound better and be more comfortable than any Ety sleeves and the Shure sleeve that fits my ears is of the same diameter as the middle ety flange, so I decided to see what...

Ety triflanges with the largest flange cut off, for me. After that it would be the Shure soft flex.

some questions about newly bought K1000

I generally listen with them at an angle about parallel to my outter ears (which ends up being ~25-30˚ I think). With this configuration, the bass is good and the treble air is still present, all while maintaning enough of the K1000 soundstage. You really do have to experiment for yourself, though.

Between DAC1 and Mini-DAC: from the amp's point of view

i didn't hear a huge difference between the USB input on my Mini-DAC and Transit->Toslink in. if anything i thought the USB was slightly better (more microdetail), though who knows with these things. however, the real reason i bought the USB version of the Mini-DAC (other than the fact that i...

The bald-spot configuration is truly great, thanks for pointing this out. Examining the angle of the drivers makes it seem like they were definitely designed to be worn this way. The sound is better than the standard top-of-the-head setup, too.

Unfortunately my single major issue with these is not an option on the poll. That is, as I have mentioned before, that I hear a bit of a cavernous (what some may interpret as a honkey timbre) sound that is especially evident to me at lower volumes with staccato notes (single hits on a snare, for...

I have to say that the build quality on these is great; it's certainly better than I expected, and much more solid than any other phones with which I've had experience.
