I'm contimplating buying an Echo Indigo...considering it supports true 24 bit, 96 kHz audio output I'm outputting the best possible sound right? Then I can hook it up to a headphone amp or DAC to possibly improve the sound in the future.

Help me out here, I'm a little confused...

The Indigo doesn't have a digital output, so no, you won't be able to connect a DAC in the future. That said, its analog output isn't bad (for the price). Also, the fact that it can handle 24/96 really doesn't reflect on the sound quality, but if your source material is higher-resolution this could be good for you.

So I could attach it do a DAC then? Can anyone explain to me what a DAC does, because I could listen to music without one. What's doing the work of the DAC when you don't have a seperate one attached?
