Sony Vaio Pocket - impressions (long)

I received my VP Tuesday from eCost (a day early). It’s nice to receive a cardboard box instead of a giant plastic force field that requires brain surgery and very sharp tools to open. Here are comparison pics with my HD1 and NH900 (hi-MD) pics. The VP is smaller than I expected, but the...

    My Sensaphonics experience (long post)

I decided to go to Sensaphonics and order the 2Xs and get some molds done. First of all thanks to Julie, Michael and Claudia for their great customer service and patience. I want to state that this was MY experience. YMMV! And boy I hope it does! I had a 3:00 p.m. appointment today and...

Coming soon to a Post Office near you...

Self-serve kiosks I went to the main PO in Chicago to send out stuff I sold. I was prepared to wait in line for at least 25-30 minutes, it was about 5:15. Lo and behold there was no line!!!! I was intercepted by the most courteous and friendly postal worker who said, "Have you tried our new...

    SR71 impressions

I picked up my SR71 from Ray Monday evening. FWIW and as Tuberoller mentioned I have serial number 6001. I didn't ask for it, but Ray promised he would give me the first one. That was 3 months ago. I received a PM over the weekend - Ray stated my SR71 was ready for pick-up and as promised it...

    Another thank you Todd thread!

Todd, A bit delayed, but many thanks for taking my money. In recent months I have purchased the Senn 650 + Equinox, AKG 271 + Equinox, and the Meridian 507. Very smooth transactions. I wasn't even looking for a source until you gave me a price I couldn't refuse on the 507. If Ray Samuels...

    Pioneer DIR800C

I received mine today! Pretty neat carry all box. I like the build quality. It has some weight to it, but the all metal casing of the 1000 would have been cool in a small unit. I placed the 800 on top of my XBox and the 800 was dwarfed by it. It is a bit bigger than a paperback book. BTW the 800...

    SuperMicro - OMG!

I am trying to pack my gear for tommorow's Chicago meet, but I've been distracted. I received mine today and it is small. My portable META42 (built by JMT) is 5xs bigger! I plugged this puppy into my D25S and Beyer 880s. My initial impressions after listening to the following w/out any burn...

Traveling with portable set-up and amp

Hello everyone! I wanted to know what your experiences were with airline travel with your portable set-up with an amp. I ask because I will be going to NYC in a few days for the US Open. I was thinking of bringing my MD and my TA, along with my Beyer 250-80 for some isolation. Do I leave...

Net MD and Simple Burner questions

I love my R900 and really do not mind the real time recording from CD to MD, but....if I can find something to make me get my music faster I'm all for it. I am planning on buying the Sony's 505 Net MD. I've researched a few of the MD websites. I've heard the pros/cons of Sony's Open MG...

Doug Schneider's (Soundstage.com) write-up of the Chicago meeting.

Check it out and enjoy: http://www.soundstage.com/traveler/ Yes, I'm the geek proudly holding up the JMT built CHA47 (Altoids version). I received quite a few ooohhs and ahhs when I shared it with fellow Head-fiers. Thanks JMT! Thanks again to Tyll and Danny for making the long trek to...

Alternative power supply to the D-25S

I can't wait for my d-25s to arrive. I was looking around Thomas Distributing to buy more NiMH Powerex AA batteries when I came across this item: http://www.thomasdistributing.com/maha-powerbank.htm To those more knowledegeable about power supplies and ratings I had some questions: I...

Patricia Barber at the Green Mill

Greetings from the great mecca of Bowling Green Ohio! I saw Patricia Barber at the Green Mill this past Monday evening. Hanging with close friends and chilling out. Great performance individually and as a group. Standouts for me where Besa me mucho, Norwegian Wood, She's a Lady. I forgot how...

MG Head owners - What's your best sounding tube combination?

I recently bought some tubes and so far the best sounding tube combo is the Mullard cv4004 and the Ei (Yugo) El84s. Better bass, a bit more detail than the stock JJs/Sovteks. I believe Wing used this combo at the Bay Area Headwizers Meeting. Regards - reynman

    Kind of Blue...really

I 've been listening to Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and every time the man himself plays there is distortion. At first, I thought my Senns were on the fritz so I tried my Beyer 250-80 and the distortion was there. My headphone rig is revealing - NAD 541 and MG Head, so the distortion is obvious...

    Grado 225 or 325

I miss the Grado sound - should not have sold my SR-80. I love my Senn 580 and even my Beyers w/ my MG Head especially with classical and jazz, but I want more impact, bigger soundstage especially with dance/trance/ambient. For example, the bass on Massive Attack's Angel with my current set-up...
