Moondrop in-ear monitors Impressions Thread
Would someone mind measuring the diameter of the tips on the A8? Curious if they’ve had to widen them beyond 5mm to accommodate all four tubes.- kitaoji

TOUR CLOSED - CUSTOMART US CIEM Demo Lineup Tour - Including Harmony 8.2 and Ei.XX
Tour kit has finally left the Pacific Northwest and is here in the crazy Bay Area! I've only had the kit for less than an hour, so no comments on the sound just yet. Everything is great, BTW - I'm using my own Spiral Dot tips and I think they stretch better than the included tips (of which...- kitaoji

Is there any way to make the canal of your custom bigger?
given my experience with Tamiya acrylic paints, I'm using Hard As Nails to thicken the canal because nail polish takes much less time to dry than the paint. I'm on the fifth coat right now and it definitely feels more snug, so maybe in your case only one or two would be okay? Also, it's a...- kitaoji

Recommend me a 12AX7 tube for a MAD Ear+ and a HP2
A 12AX7 is a dual triode tube, and some -- not ALL -- variants of the 12A*7 family can be used in the same position as it is in right now. (I assume that your Ear+ has two 12BH4s and and a 12AX7.) Your best (and safest) bet is to e-mail Dr. Peppard which tube (series) you'd like to use. When...- kitaoji

Recommend me a 12AX7 tube for a MAD Ear+ and a HP2
I liked both GE and RCA tubes with my Grados. Have you tried using a 5751 tube and 12AT7?- kitaoji

HeadAmp Pico Portable Amp (w/ optional upsampling 24/96 USB DAC) Pre-Order Thread
Hi Justin, I hope it's not too late to jump onto the ordering thread! I'd like a Pico with DAC, black all over (boring, but I like it). No need for a USB cable as I have plenty of A to mini-B cables lying around. Thanks.- kitaoji

NorCal Regional, August 25th
I'll see if I can make it to the meet as well, so mark me down as 'tentative'. If I can go, I'll bring my amp for anyone who wants to hear it.- kitaoji

Discussion: DACs - how small and good can we make them?
The predecessor to the DAC707 - theDAC67 is *tiny* (see here). It currently needs a massive battery (or an AC adapter), and I'm not sure of the sound quality (it works, that's for sure), but it can be made really small.- kitaoji

Best sonics with cd's: Rega, Marantz, or Cambridge?
I've heard Rega's Planet (2000?) and Apollo on headphones, and I really liked them. I've also heard the Cambridge's 340c, and have auditioned 640c and 740c on speaker setups. I liked the Apollo. The Rega line is very inviting and warm, which I think is good with vocal music. Cambridge hasn't...- kitaoji

Life expectancy of amps, or audio equipment in general
I agree with the above. Good equipment will last long, and even more so if it's well treated. My parents are still using the setups they bought years ago (1980 and 1993) and they're still going strong on zero maintenance. Okay, a pre-amp fried, but it was really a freak accident (and it's been...- kitaoji

A Decent Place to Buy Headphones in the BAY Area
if you're going to SF via the airport, be sure to stop at that one audio shop around the check-in area. They have the entire Shure line-up, and when I was there last year the guy let me listen to E500s for as long as I wanted.- kitaoji

Meier Opera Reviews!
Instead of working (as I should be), I took time today to compare the Corda Opera to my system, which consists of a Stello DA100 and a Mapletree HD150. I switched between USB DACs on foobar, and connected the Mapletree (a GE 12BH7A and GE 5751) to the Opera's pre-amp out. I'm not a fan of...- kitaoji

REVIEW: Denon AH-D5000 (56k beware)
I felt the W5000s were more "plasticy" smooth leather, while the Denons were "comfortable-to-sink-into" leather. Definitely nothing like the sponges (velvet?) of the beyers and senns, or the stiff cups on the K701s, or the weird scratchy bowls of Grados.- kitaoji

REVIEW: Denon AH-D5000 (56k beware)
I'm going to make this a one-off post... I heard the W5000 and the D5000 at the int'l meet yesterday, off Agile_One's laptop-apogee Mini-DAC-Yamamoto HA-02 setup. Many thanks to the guys in the high-end room who let me hog the setup I can see why Skylab likes the D5000s - I'd call them a...- kitaoji

Well the NEW anime season has started ANY favorites yet??
1. Romeo and Juliet. Call me sappy, but the artwork, the budget, and the pacing is absolutely brilliant. 2. El Cazador de la Brujah. I am a Bee-Train fangirl. That's all that needs to be said. 3. Nanoha StrikerS. A's seemed well put together, and it's more space action. Yaaayyyyyyyy- kitaoji

Mapletree Ear+ Purist HD2 tube rolling ...
Confirm with Dr. Peppard if a 12BH7A can replace the ECC99 tube in the HD2. But right now I really like my GE 12BH7A replacing the ECC99. My main combo right now is ECC99 + 1983 JAN NOS Philips 5751. I like this with my SR325is and K701s. But I just got new tubes, and the GE 12BH7A + GE...- kitaoji

The "I hate waiting for parcels" thread.
Since this is the Member's Lounge, I'll talk about my non-Head-Fi packages. 1. waited for nearly two months for books from China to arrive. 2. pre-ordered CDs back in late August; they should come in a week. 3. pre-ordered DVDs back in October; they should be here next year. 2 & 3...- kitaoji

DIYEDEN SVDAC05 & Great March II
I keep on forgetting about iFi Audio... sorry, I just read some of the posts that turn up in Google ("it can retail as much as $360 for the overseas market! this is one of the few units left in China!"... etc.) but either way, going from 980RMB to $270 US is pretty steep.- kitaoji

DIYEDEN SVDAC05 & Great March II
I think the SVDAC05 is the domestic version of the Musiland MD10... If you look at the photos of the MD10 here: http://www.diyeden.com/eng/Article/S...p?ArticleID=54 It looks REALLY similar. At the same time, the price of the SVDAC05 is around 1000RMB on the various auction sites...- kitaoji
