USB external sound card recommendations w/ a DAC & digital-output. ($0-$150)
Hi guys I am looking for advice in achieving the best 2-channel audio possible from my newly purchased Windows 7 PC. I don't think my new computer can output digital audio, only analog. XP won't recognize my D2.
I did a complete reformat of my XP Home based computer this week and now when I connect my D2 via USB cable a little balloon pops up on the bottom right of my desktop saying "USB Device Not Recognized." I have tried it in all 6 of my USB 2.0 ports. Nothing. I tried switching my D2 from mass...- kurt_fire

Does Rockbox upgrade the D2? Any news on the D3?
I need a FLAC playing DAC and was thinking about getting a 4GB Cowon D2. I'd love to save some money and get the Sansa Clip is only it supported FLAC. Ugh! I can't justify paying for the 8GB D2, or even the 16GB with the 80GB and 160GB Ipod Classics not much more. I'll be using this for mainly...- kurt_fire

How can I rewire my PortaPros and KSC-35?
The left channel in my KSC-35 cuts in and out. I don't know how to fix this. My PortaPro's left channel speaker wire looks to have dry-rotted and snapped exposing the tiny speaker wire underneath. It continued to work like this for a few weeks but now the left channel is out completely...- kurt_fire

Best ~$30 mini to mini (3.5mm) interconnect?
I'll be using this cable to run from my computer soundcard to my headphone amp, a PA2V2. My headphones are MS-1s. As of now I'm torn between these two: Cardas 1M Mini to Mini cable from HeadRoom.com --> http://www.headphone.com/products/ca...mini-cable.php and a Blue Jeans Cable custom...- kurt_fire

Kernel streaming with Winamp Classic and Chaintech AV-710?
I currently use Foobar2000 v.0.8.3 and had it set up to play music files via kernel streaming, 96000Hz. My sound card is a Chaintech AV-710. I have always liked the userface of Winamp classic much more than Foobar. I don't know how to "tweak" Foobar's looks too much and it still looks pretty...- kurt_fire

Best storage/archival system for CDs? (pics inside)
I currently store most of my CDs in a DJ case which is currently filled. The CDs themselves are inside Tyvek sleeves. For most of them I have printed a "mock" CD cover out of computer paper and slid that into the Tyvek case. I then slide the CD behind the paper "mock" CD cover. Does anybody know... -
Decent, under $130 nice computer desks?
Hi, I listen to lots of music at my computer when doing homework or surfing the web. I need a computer desk. I prefer one that provides adequate leg room for a tall guy (I'm 6'4") and a keyboard tray wide enough to fit my MX Duo (mouse + keyboard). The cheaper the better, but it must be somewhat...- kurt_fire

Modern bands that sound like "classic rock?"
Are there any? I was listening to Derek and the Dominos today and was thinking, "man, they sure don't make music like this anymore." Am I wrong? Or does today's artist's blow major chunks compared to the bands from the 60s and 70s? I hardly ever hear a guitar solo in any of today's music. And... -

Brand new KSC-35 problem. Faint crackling during "quiet" parts of songs.
I just got my KSC-35s from Creative's Ebay auction. I just put them on five minutes ago, and have listened to several songs through my computer. I'm hearing a faint, slight crackle coming from both sides when the music becomes faint. I can't hear it when the music is blaring away; only at the...- kurt_fire

Ear damage from headphones?
What are the signs and symptoms that you are causing ear damage when listening to headphones? I can't think of ever a time my ears have "rang" after a headphone session, and I commonly listen to my MS1s for 2-3 hours at a time. If my ears never "ring" after a session, am I good to go? No harm...- kurt_fire

Alessandro MS-1 mod using HD414 pads..
I need some help here guys. Today I received 2 pairs of HD414 yellow pads. I want to circle mod one of them, and leave the other stock. First, how do you even put the HD414 pads onto the MS-1? One of my MS-1 comfies is fading yellow/brown in certain areas.
here's a picture of my 3 month old MS-1s: If you look closely at my right earpiece, it's starting to turn a yellowish, brown color in certain areas. hehe, just bought the last KSC-35 off Ebay!
yesterday when I looked at Creative's listing, it showed 18 left. I just looked and only saw 1 left. So I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered the last pair. I'm sure Creative will put up another auction with a quantity of 20 or so. Next on my list is to get the KSC-75 from Amazon for...- kurt_fire

Both are $12.95/month and I want to get one or the other. I will it use it primarily to listen to classic rock, blues, and jazz. How do would YOU describe "headphone soundstage," and other popular terms.

CD ripping question regarding LAME MP3.
I've been reading a lot lately about LAME MP3s. When I rip my CDs to my computer, I do not rip them to MP3 format. I rip them to WAV, then convert them to FLAC via a program called "switch." And when I download music, it is in either FLAC or MP3 format already. Is there any need for me to...- kurt_fire
