Sennheiser HD800: Spray Painted Plastic and the New Acid-Washed Jeans.
Well I worked as an R&D Engineer in the Polymer industry and now work as a Process Engineer in the Polymer industry.... The company I work for is on the bleeding edge of polymers (plastics) and our customers only want a cost saving and we sell to a high end market (value added for demanding...- James63

Well my 16GB iPhone came in. I have been playing with it for a few days, big thumbs up so far.... Anyway just started to dig out my portable amps tonight only to find out that my "Pocket Doc" that works with my 4th generation iPod does not work with my iPhone. I hope this is normal? Is the...- James63

Looking for compatible iPhone IEM (with microphone))
Ok well thanks for the replies. I found a winner: Triple.fi 10vi. I have another question though. I will still use my "old" iPod at the gym. Will the Triple.fi 10vi still work with a standard stereo headphone jack? - Store - Ultimate Ears Earphones Headphones Personal Monitors- James63

Looking for compatible iPhone IEM (with microphone))
Well I just looked at the "Music Phone Adapter" on Shure web site. I think it will make the cable to long. I need new IEM anyway so I think I will just get a new pair. Thanks anyway. Has anyone heard Etymotic hf2? Etymotic hf2 @ HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears I have heard Etymotic...- James63

Looking for compatible iPhone IEM (with microphone))
I just ordered two iPhones (one 16G for me and one 8G for the wife). They will be here in about 7 days. I am looking for a good set of IEM to replace the headphones that come with the G3 iPhone. I want them to have a microphone and a button that I can answer calls with (just like the ones...- James63

Headphone Performance Article in Stereophile
Their reviews are junk.... They only review speakers that already have good rep. But their measurements are first rate. I don't read a word they right but take good time looking at their measurements. As for the room affecting headphones Ok just did a quick test with my 650s in a 15 foot...- James63

Benchmark DAC-1 (none USB) vs DAC-1 USB
Majid: The highest bit-rate my mac puts out is 96.0kHz @ 24 bit. I rip all files using Apple lossless format. I have no idea how the details works. It looks like the DAC-1 USB is limited 96 kHz 24 bit and the optical can take up to 192 kHz 24 bit. So technically the DAC-1 is better over...- James63

Benchmark DAC-1 (none USB) vs DAC-1 USB
I have a quick question. I use Apple computers so I have an optical out built into my computer. Is there any benefit for me to spend the extra $275 to get the USB version? To me it makes more sense to use the optical connection to separate the mechanical drive from my amplifier. I will...- James63

Klipsch speakers -> Headphones
Well I listen to speakers mostly these days. You will not get the same sound as speakers but you might actually get headphones you like better I have listened to Klipsch RF-7, and Klipsch-Horns. I have always considered Grado the Klipsch of headphones. I would recommend Alessando Music Series...- James63

The Headphones Vs Speakers Challenge
Well speakers are better in just about every way. The only thing I find better with headphones is detail. Some of the detail is lost in the air between me and my speakers. Many many speakers in the $3,000 range will out perform most headphones. No matter how much you spend on headphones they...- James63

Is it time for sub-forums in the "Headphones, Earphones, In-Ear Headphones" forum?
NO NO NO! The forum will not be what it is now with sub-forums. Look at HTGuide and AudioCircle that have many many sub forums. They are a mess and get little action for a number of reason. While sites like Audiogon (and head-fi) are very easy to browse and read through. 1# For example...- James63

Prefer headphones over speakers?
I love all the people that say they can not afford speakers and have 3 grand worth of headphones?!? 3 grand buys a pretty good pair of speakers. Mine were only about 3 grand and sound much better than any of my headphones. Speakers can get very expensive though. If you ever though you were...- James63

New iPods don't work without iTunes?
Well I strongly feel that the people who bash apple have never owned one! I have used very thing out there (have also done some programing) and MACs are head and sholders above everyone. iTunes is not good for fiddeling with your music (EQ, what not) but it works fine and runs bit...- James63

Hearing Damage - how to avoid ?
Hearing damage is time depentant. 80db will be fine for 3 hours (on the higher side if safe though) but what you need to think about is the rest of the day. Driving you car with the windows open, using a hair drier, etc, all counts too! Try to limit other loud activities (wear ear plugs)...- James63

Klipsch IMAGE In-Ear Earphones
Not sure why every one is so negative!. I have heard the Klipsch RF-7 many many times and it sounds better than 95% of the headphones people rave about on this site. They should be very good. I have always considered Kilipsch the "Grado" of the speaker world....maybe we will finally get...- James63

I think my journey came to an end
Enjoy the Stax! Here is a good review from Stereophile http://www.stereophile.com/accessoryreviews/895/ They are a little to spendy for me because they would cut into my Stereo budget. At their price I could bring home a pair of B&W 803D.- James63

I had to share this with you!!! LOL
Open or closed it does not matter. A speaker is just a motor.... it is like pistons vs turbine engines...both work on the same principle of pressure differential. It is the total change in pressure that matters not how that change is created. I for one feel that open headphone have less...- James63
