SEATTLE MEET @ FRONT PANEL EXPRESS 1/21/2012
Impression thread! Go! Ken, Doc B and all the MOTs: first and foremost: Thank you! Your time at these meets is very much appreciated. It's always nice to see and hear what you guys (and queens) are up to. Doc - I had no idea that your DAC was "in the room" and working. Thanks...- bhjazz

Power Supply: Too Much Current?
I guess the question is: how much is too much! The plugin wallwart for my phono preamp has died. Dunno why. It's an AC AC Adapter: 16VAC/250ma. And I can't seem to find a reasonable replacement online. The closest I have found is 16VAC - 1A. Seems like overkill. Would this burn up the phono...- bhjazz

Dynahi PS Problems
I took in an ailing Dynahi from member iamsmrt at the last Seattle meet. His initial symptom was that one of the RCA connections had come loose, and could I solder it back together. Well, at the meet, once the lid was off, we noticed something far more serious: all six PS caps were bulging out...- bhjazz

Live Jazz East of Seattle: Kamal Abdul-Alim
On a whim, we ended up at a tiny club in Issaquah, Wa, called Vino Bella. We had no idea who would be playing, but knew a trio was performing. So we stayed, grabbed a few tapas and a glass of wine, and hung out to see what was up. We ended up with quite a treat: Kamal Abdul-Alim and Super Blue...- bhjazz

Seattle Head-Fi Meet...3.22.08
Seattle Spring meet: 3.22.08!!! I like the numerology of it (3*2) +2=8. The next two meets should be doozies. Spring will begin our push to get more vendor participation, and at least one summer meet will be hosted by Gil who is donating his garage space and double-barrel barbecue. So...- bhjazz

Seattle Meet Impressions Thread 11/17/2007
Seattle Meet Impressions Thread 11/17/2007 Hello Seattle! Hey, we had a great meet! I was a little nervous that people might not show up, but y'all surprised me. Hell, we even had four, count 'em, FOUR new members. To the regular members, good to see you. To the new members, welcome...- bhjazz

How Do I get 3V From 30V?
So I want to add a custom touch to my next amplifier. This custom touch...some lighting (as always with me, geez) does ship with it's own power supply: a box which holds two AA batteries and supplies 3V. I'd rather use the power already inside and dispense with the battery holder. The problem...- bhjazz

Seattle Head-Fi Meet...11/17/2007
Greetings Seattle Head-Fi'ers. Our last meet in May was a blast. We had a great turnout and I was really happy to meet everyone. Sooooo....let's get another one going! Our date for this meet is now set at November 17, 2007. We have a nice big meeting room ready at the Issaquah Library...- bhjazz

X-Fi DAC: Direct Connect from CD-ROM?
So I was hanging around inside my computer the other day, and noticed that my X-Fi Extreme Music has an SPDIF in (SPDIF_I0 in photo below). I am sure that this connector is used with their front faceplate, etc, etc. I also noticed that the back of both my DVD-ROM and DVD burner have two-pin...- bhjazz

Phono Preamp Hotrodding - Odd cap questions
While I wait for some (more) parts for my Cavalli, I am working on hotrodding my ProJect phono preamp. The stock parts seem pretty generic, so I thought a major overhaul would get the performance up a bit. Plus, it'll be fun, right? Here's the board. The questions I have are...- bhjazz

IEC Inlet with EMI Filter?
I came upon a spare part in my box-o-stuff that I might be able to use for my CK2III. It's an IEC socket with an integrated EMI filter. Here are the specs: 115/250V 6A L: 2x0.8mH C: 0.1uF(X2)SH 2200pF(Y)x2 It seemed like it might be a kind of cool thing, and was small enough that I could...- bhjazz

Galaxy case owners: inside height available?
I'm considering shoehorning my CK2III into a GX247. The measurements for the case on Audiokit.it are 230 x 170 x 40mm, or 9 x 6.7 x 1.5inch. However, I can only assume those are the outside dimensions. Any idea what the internal dimensions of the case are? I would send an email to Audiokit, but...- bhjazz

Car CD Player...xformer question
My most recent vehicle doesn't seem to have a good place for my Alpine CD player, so I thought it might be fun to use it with my headphone rig. Build a small box, wire up a wallwart and go! The power needs for this unit are 14.4 vDC (11-16 allowable) as you would expect. The power lead on it...- bhjazz

Trouble at Welborne?
I ordered some items from Welborne last last year, and they seemed to have some trouble fulfilling the order. A few emails were sent and I was content to wait as it was a supplier problem. Now it's been 90 days and still no sign of the product. I did get an email from them saying it was being...- bhjazz

Ground Post?
I'm looking for a ground post similar to what one would find on a phono preamp. It needs to have, at the very least, a locknut/nut on the back end so it stays in. I have only found one available at PartsConnexion, but would consider some less costly alternatives if they exist! Many Thanks!- bhjazz

Tread/Pimeta Switch Options
The Pimeta obviously has a nice place for the user to insert a switch. I have also realzied that adding a switch to hot power inlet prior to the Tread would be just as decent. Seems to me that cutting power prior to the Tread would prevent it's main cap from keeping any charge on it, even...- bhjazz

Pimeta Tread: Balancing Light Output
So I have an LED hanging off of the Pimeta, and a couple more hanging off of the Tread. To get them to have the same light output (and look the same), I'm going to need to fiddle with resistors. I was thinking of jumpering the RLED spot on the Pimeta, then working with the LED resistor further...- bhjazz

Mounting an Alps RK27
So I'm figuring out where I want the volume shaft to be on the faceplate for my Pimeta. With the Alps RK27, there is a pin to the left of the volume shaft. What is the general concensus for this pin: do you drill out a hole for it to sit in to keep the whole pot from shifting as you use the...- bhjazz

Grinding Out Some Aluminum
I just receive a volume knob for my Pimeta that is all aluminum. I want to make a small ridge in the back of it using maybe a dremel. Would that be possible or would I really need something more, say, "industrial"???- bhjazz

Pimeta Voltage Checks: OPALR Pins 2 and 7
Well, no smoke and no blown caps today! The Tread is connected to the Pimeta, and is adjusted at 24VDC. All standard tests seemed to be fine, except for a little oddity with OPALR. In referencing Nate's discussion here, I noticed he had a measurement of 0 where I have -.058 on pins 2 and 7...- bhjazz

Pimeta...R1G...huh?
I've been getting the resistors into my Pimeta today, and am scartching my head over R1G. There is little mention of it on Tangent's Parts Selection Guide, yet I do see it installed in the photos of his assembly guide. I know it has been mentioned in various threads as needing to be the same as...- bhjazz

DC Power Jack Wiring Oddity
I finally received a package of these Kobiconn DC power jacks. However, the spec sheet does not describe the three solder lugs on the back. Now, obviously, the lower lug is the center pin, but the top two lugs both respond when I take a quick continuity test to the inside shield. So does it...- bhjazz

Measuring Wallwart Current: What's Going On?
So the parts are beginning to show up at the door for my Pimeta. Pretty exciting to arrive home and see those packages waiting. One item that arrived was the wallwart form Jameco. I found an unregulated 24VDC 500mA unit for somewhere around 9 bucks. I am a little short on time to start...- bhjazz
