I just receive a volume knob for my Pimeta that is all aluminum. I want to make a small ridge in the back of it using maybe a dremel. Would that be possible or would I really need something more, say, "industrial"???

There's no question a Dremel can destroy Aluminum, if you wish. That's actually the problem. "Industrial" adds things like massive support that prevents all extraneous movement and reduces backlash to zero. With a Dremel, all you have is your hand and arm - that is rarely enough for accurate work.

That said, if it's on the backside and appearance is not an issue, then a Dremel with the right tip will do just fine.
