went ahead and took one tape off each driver. bass has increased to an enjoyable level without sacraficing clarity my cans have had over 500 hours of burn-in but this mod has truely opened them up for the better.. highly reccomend this to those looking for that extra bass these cans...

I know its early but has anyone figured out the voltage supplied to the main opamp? Ideally it should be 9v or above for descrete opamp options.

I use AKG k701s with a darkvoice 336i.. very nice sound with a good source have also tried an older NAD solidstate amp and it doesn't sound half bad, bass is more pronounced

I'm also interested in one of these... Audio-GD makes nice discrete opamps and I have heard good reports on their amps and DACs. their stuff tends to be neutral sounding and transparent, nicely detailed without sounding too analytical

someone needs to try a discrete opamp in one of these. hopefully it has enough power for one, I know some who have used them in Auzentech cards and loved the sound. works wonders in the ZeroDAC aswell

also sorry for OT but has anyone here experienced the DAC-100? I own a zero atm but the amp stage is useless to me now that I have a darkvoice 336i. how does this dac compare to the Zero assuming they are both fitted with descrete opamps?

I did some research on this and with the card you have, you must be cutting it close in minimum volt requirements for the hdam. I believe the Auzentech X-Meridian feeds its opamps 8v (in comparison to 5v for most soundcards). where as on Audio-gd, they mention 9-25v as the recommended dose...

^^^ id say get the stock version and just get one of the hdams from audio-gd if your just using it as a DAC. simple opamp swap and you'll get some sweet sounds for minimal cash

i thought preamp mode was when it was unlit and not utilizing the headamp thats the way I would do it.. I no longer have the headamp circuit in my zero as i will be using the darkvoice336i and when I press the preamp button to have it lit green I get no signal
