    Burson Soloist with HD600?

Hey guys, I Know that the Burson Soloist is a pretty capable amp with hard to drive orthos...but I also understand that given its variable gain output, you can pretty much drive any headphone. Does anyone know how this amp pairs with Sennheisers of the hd600/650 variety? I recently purchased...

    New happy Decibel user

Just downloaded and purchased Decibel last night and have been super happy with the results over iTunes.  I'm running Decibel on my 2011 iMac to a Nuforce Icon-2 to Energy V-Mini bookshelves.  It definitely seems that the "veil has been lifted" - I can hear more subtleties of tone and texture...

    Nuforce LPS-1...difference is not subtle.

Just received my new LPS-1 power supply unit in the mail, hooked it up to my Nuforce Icon-2 and have been amazed with the difference in sound quality!  In sheer scale of the the sound, it is like night and day.  Where it used to sound somewhat small, thin and veiled, the sound is now much...

Nuforce Icon-2 powers my Triangle Cometes nicely!

I just received a Nuforce Icon-2 USB dac/desktop amp/headphone amp for Christmas.  I took it to my local hi-fi shop and tried it out with a bunch of different speakers.  This little amp rocks!  Hooked it up to a pair of Triangle Comete Es and I was absolutely floored by the sound.  The Triangles...

    V-DAC with PS3 - why not?

For some reason, it took me quite a while to realize that I could hook up a DAC to my Playstation 3 - I actually didn't know that it had a digital optical output until I looked at the back while cleaning it. I have a lot of music on it (upgraded the hardrive to 320 gb) but have never been...

Should I leave my integrated amp on?

What is better for the life of an amplifier, to leave it on most of the time, or to turn it on and off when ever I use it? My amp has an on off switch on the back and a stand-by option in the front. However, It seems to run pretty warm even in "stand-by" mode. Is it true that it is stressful...

Monitors and floorstanders take up same amount of space.

I keep on reading about people who buy such and such monitor speaker to replace their floorstander because of lack of space. Assuming you have a good monitor/bookshelf speaker, you must use stands and they take up just as much space as your average floorstander. so what's the deal with this...

    Anyone have experience rewiring speakers?

Yesterday, while trying out some new speaker cable, I noticed that one of my binding posts was loose. So, I unscrewed binding post thingy and tightened it on the other side (inside the speaker). I noticed that the speaker cable inside the box (connecting the binding posts to the speaker drivers)...

    Nordost Super Flatline Gold?

I just pulled the trigger on a 12ft pair of Nordost Super Flatline gold bi-wire speaker cable on ebay (104 dollars!). I've never heard this particular cable but have been impressed with Nordost in general over the years. I hope they will have good synergy with my setup. If so, I'm going to sell...

    24bit or downsampled 16bit??

I just downloaded a 24bit flac file from HDtracks. Thing is I don't know if my v-dac is capable of playing true 24bit files. I'm using Foobar player and connecting my computer to v-dac using highspeed 2.0 usb cable. My laptop doesn't have spidif out so....Is that the only way to get true 24bit...

    Power Chords: A Testimonial

As I sat listening to music and staring at my hi-fi rig and the unorganized and tangled mess of chords underneath, I decided to do some tweaking and messing around. Underneath my integrated amplifier between my amplifier and the power outlet lay two Signal Cable Magic Power cords connected by a...

    Portapros Rock!

I'm listening to my new Portapro's for the first time and I'm astounded by the lush yet incredibly detailed and musical sound. Currently, I'm listening to Bartok string quartets (emerson) - the separation of instruments and tonal purity is really impressive, especially for the price. I'm super...

    Musical Fidelity V-dac?

I was just checking out Musicdirect's new catalog and stumbled upon the new v-dac from Musical fidelity. It's described as a high quality dac in a budget shell. Looks interesting. Check it out on Audioadvisor and Musicdirect. If anyone has demoed it would love to hear about impressions. BTW...

    Headphones or Speakers?

How many of you prefer a good speaker setup to headphones? I have to say that while I love my headphones, I'd rather listen to my speakers for a number of reasons. First of all, I just love the real soundstage you get with a good hi-fi setup. Second of all, sometimes I really get sick of the...

    Hornet lacking in bass definition?

I'm listening to Mozart's Requiem right now (what a piece!) on HD580's/Hornet/Sony NW-HD5 352kbps, and I'm focusing on the cellos and basses, and I think that the definition and overall grip in the bass is a bit lacking. Is this something that I can blame on the Hornet or my HD580's? The Hornet...

Is this enough power for my hd580's?

I'm going to by a digital field recorder to record myself and other musicians. I'd like to be able to monitor playback with my hd580's w/out the help of a headphone amp. The headphone out on the device is rated at: 400 mV; Maximum output level: 25 mW + 25 mW or more; Load impedance: 16 ohms...

    Why all the cable haters?

I find it really strange that on a forum that is dedicated to "Cables, Power, Tweaks, etc", there are so many people that are really not into tweaks, but rather into hating the tweaks and the people that have so much fun tweaking. For example, all the people out there that swear that there is no...

    Just got my hd600 grills!

I just got them in the mail and installed them on my hd580's (really easy to snap on), and I have to say that I'm really impressed and delighted with the difference they make! I made sure to listen to them before I put the new grills on so that I'd be able to better compare. The first thing I...

Lost ety's, need new iem. help

So, I lost my ety er4p's and now looking to replace them. While I really liked them, I found them somewhat on the cold/analytical side. I loved how they retrieved detail from recordings, but I often wanted a little more richness ( ie mid-bass-lowbass). I've never really heard the competition...

    Awesome Tweak

I just discovered an amazing tweak. Next time you decide to listen to your rig, close your eyes and focus on what the music is telling you. Completely block out any critical thought, open your ears to the musical language that is speaking to you. You will be blown away by the results.
