REVIEW: Todd the Vinyl Junkie TTVJ Slim Portable Amplifier w/ DAC
PREFACE I received this amplifier as part of TTVJ's incredibly generous loaner programme. Due to a defect in the first model I received, it took a week or two to get an amp that I could use effectively for a review. I should say that this is my first majour experience with a portable amp (I...- TheBigCW

Complete Setup for $1000?
I absolutely LOVE my K601 for rock, jazz and classical. It has enough deep, pleasant bass while still remaining the sparkling, beautiful highs the K*01 series are known for, plus, it's about half of your budget new.- TheBigCW

DT 880 Pro or Premium (2005)?
The only difference between Pro and Premium is that the Pro are different comfort-wise. They clamp harder.- TheBigCW

FWIW, I just tested the high-gain version of the Maverick with the 32 ohm MS1 and there's no hiss.- TheBigCW

Power cord made a big difference
I think threads like these (and certain reviewers power cords 'shootouts') are very dangerous. With the Sound Science forum being the ghetto of rational thought on HF, many inexperienced audiophiles could believe some of this cable nonsense (and have, if you've read the shootout I was talking... -

why do transports sound different?
When they say 'because you're looking' they mean, of course, the added visual aspect produces inevitable placebo. If you can see what you're plugging in, you have expectations. This is why DBT is the only way to truly evaluate such things in audio.- TheBigCW

What single upgrade would make the biggest impact on your rig...
I suppose the next biggest upgrade you could go with would be a dedicated DAC. Going from onboard sound to a dedicated DAC was pure magic for me. No longer did I have to listen to my music with such an annoying hiss.- TheBigCW
