just realized i can sooo RE-wiring the hpt990 to have dual ear cup wires for a more balanced fit!

I did mine with DHC Peptide Hybrid wire......makes these sound better than my HD600 and HD580 with the same wire.  Can't believe the clarity, so open and airy, soundstage is huge.  You need to pay attention to the wiring, red is ground on both the left and right.  Green is left signal, and black is right signal.  I assumed that black was ground, and ended up with the right side reverse polarity......took me a bit to realize why the sound on the right side was louder, and focused to the right.  So, the left (middle wire is ground on the left and right, confusing at first).  Take pictures before you start!  Resulting sound is just fantastic, I am looking for another pair, or Takstar HD2050, or Takstar Pro 80.  I think the deeper cups and the dampening material is very good.  Also, I have a tube amp pushing the power....I have them EQ'd on the lower end a bit, and I also EQ the mid bass down below 125 hz.  A couple of easy tweeks that helps produce the super clarity.  The DHC wire is fantastic, but I think good pure siilver stranded wire with copper for grounds to make it a little cheaper to mod.  I have successfully used Toxic Cables pure silver and copper cryoed OCC as well.  Makes these headphones sound like > $300 phones!

Can not discuss that.....but plussound .com is offering 26 gauge cryoed type 2 litz, which would be similar to what I am using.  They are asking $3 a foot plus $7 shipping.  You could use that and their 28 gauge copper cryoed for the returns at $1 a foot.  That combo would really open up the sound on these, with extended bass and treble, natural sound with clarity!  Type 2 litz has special soldering considerations!
