Unfortunately I don't have any Lambda style drivers so I'm going to try it with Gamma drivers in a smaller enclosure. It may need some EQ to get them humming but I'm itching to try it. Like a complete tool I turned down an offer of some Lambda drivers for $75... There's egg on my face now!

1 - Is the earcup housing sealed or is it completely open with just a little damping from the glass fiber? From the pictures it looks open but it's hard to tell for sure.

2 - The driver mounting.. is it just mounted backwards with the cable connectors inside of the cups? I'm guessing yes and are they wired backwards as a result to fix polarity.

It'll be handy to know as I attempt to make my faux Sigmas.

The earcup is completely open and lined with 10mm mineral wool.

The drivers have the metal grill facing inside the cups but are wire up just like the lambdas.

I've never dealt with a business where emailing was actually much faster than calling. I called Accutech multiple times over the course of two weeks and no one ever answered. I emailed them last night and received a reply this morning.

Well, they are asking $100 for a new arc assembly, not sure from which of the new Lambdas they'll take it. I presume the SR-202.

Since I'm cheap... and poor, I have three options:
1. Suck it up and just buy the assembly from them
2. Sell my Lambda and buy another with arc assembly
3. Make a WTB ad in the FS forums and wait for something to show up

Thoughts? Do you think it's worth buying a new arc assembly?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I bought a Lambda with no arc assembly a few weeks ago. Yeah.

Lol.
Yeah, that'd be a little bit of a nuisance I imagine

What type of Lambdas are they? Sadly with the dollar in the crapper all these parts are now getting very expensive so options are limited if you're in the US. I'm not sure I'd want to pay that much for an arc, but again, limited options. I'd be tempted to sell the bits and buy a complete set off ebay, depending on model.

It is a normal bias SR-Lambda. If I do intend to sell it to buy something with arc assembly, and you still want Lambda drivers (in housing, with cable), I'll PM you. But it sounds so good, and it'll probably sound better with proper fit.

Just run two per side as a line array. That's what I'm going to do with the SFI drivers in a Lambda housing.

Well, I'm all in favor of keeping to the SR-Lambda. I love mine and if you don't find another one cheap you should just get the new arc. The original Lambda is a keeper in my book. I'd be happy to take your parts if you do decide to sell, but knowing it's the 'right' Lambda kinda makes me rethink the arc price. It's a very nice sound that I prefer over the 303/404s.

It is true that if I buy the arc assembly I still will have paid less than the normal going rate for a Lambda, so I will probably go that route. Thanks for the advice. I was considering trying some newer Stax, but that involves conversion to pro bias, and apparently newer isn't always better sounding. Is there anything you prefer over the Lambda, barring your creations and the SR-007, 4070, and SR-SC1? I just got the Lambda, and I'm already considering getting something else...

There are a number of Staxes I've yet to hear, SR-3/5, Lambda Pro/Sig, 4070, O1,O2 so can't give a blanket recommendation over them all. I will say they are on a par with the SR-X MkIII which I rate very highly, above the Gamma and 303/404 for my tastes. Modded they are better still, up with my all-time favorite cans ever.

That's not to say you'd agree with me on all counts, but imo you'd need to spend significantly more or engage in some DIY to better them by any worthwhile margin. The SR-Lambda is a fine headphone and you lose nothing by it being normal bias.

I made a tentative start on the faux sigma last night and it doesn't sound too good. Sorta boxy like the Lambda puled away from the ears and little bass or upper treble. Spatially it sounds good and not as bad as I was thinking it'd be but far from usable. It'll be very helpful seeing what Stax did to get around this. Still, early days
