The Headphone Driver Pics Thread

It was my first planar/ortho...I had no idea what I was doing. I still have the magnet.

I just got these: Taction Kannon

Anyone recognize the driver? 40mm I think. Headphones look like audio-technica and it has a board and solder plates that do remind of audio-technica. People have said it's just a m40x/m50x with tactile driver but obviously it's not.

Batteries in both cups.

That black box under the battery is the tactile driver, or case for it anyway.

I don't know if I should try a driver replacement or sell these. That dynamic driver could be (alot) better. Not much to work with on the inside with all the wires and stuff so good driver might go to waste. It's hilariously entertaining headphone but not really best match for my music taste.
Looks like a driver swap will lead to a little aesthetic damage. Of course there's the risk of losing the driver in the process, but that depends on the glue holding it in place.
Either way, that might lower the re-sale price.
Personally I don't think it's worth it.
Either EQ it to your taste, or keep it as a novelty headphone. I've got a few other novelty headphones, but I feel like they're best kept in original form.
I mean... don't let me sway you, you do you :) just doesn't seem like a huge payoff for a headphone that's got a giant buzzing motor inside :D

https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...700.pc_countrysearch.main07.97.6581593ck6sNvE 50mm, LCP(cone), Aluminum (mid-section), PEEK PU(suspended edge )

A reminder that PEEK is a actually expensive plastic and is way more stronger than aluminium iirc

EDIT:
And according to desc of both items:
"Customized material and impedance and power are available."

Again another edit:

https://alibaba.com/product-detail/...ml?spm=a2700.icbuShop.41413.15.19116871ZEYvFx 40mm LSR suspended edge aluminium dia

3rd update:
Unfortunately the samples are not free but rather pre-production samples of customized drivers someone orders to confirm quality check before the company/sellers begins producing the real ones. Also you cannot get customized drivers for personal use because MOQ is 50000 but the drivers from their shop can be ordered for a pair. Also the magnet grade for the drivers from the shop is "N50"

You might be right. I'll propably settle for pad rolling. I've decided that regardless of results I will sell these. I've bought 14 headphones in 2 months and some really need to go.

I love this tech. I wish they would sell it as a seperate unit which one could slap on any headphone. I would propably use it with all my headphones. It's a shame headphones with cool extra stuff tend to have sucky sound quality. Like mobius for example. Which headphone has best soundstage and imaging, hd800? No. Mobius with headtracking and crossfeed enabled is way better. It's just not a good enough headphone on it's own. I have AKG N90q incoming. Propably another "nice tech, bad sound" experience but I'm hoping it it would be decent atleast.

My experience of the N90q was immeasurable disappointment ... but it was a demo unit, so who knows if it was even working properly.
I think it might have been a faulty unit, as there was the tiniest high-pitch whining the whole time it was on.
But, even then... it just didn't sound that good, ignoring all the tech.

I feel the same way about Sony VIP1000 soundstage. The headtracking thing is stupidly fun and the DSP with gyroscopic headtracking sounds JUST like stereo speakers. But... a novelty, because it just doesn't sound great... sounds good, but not great.

Donating my old pictures of Audiotehnica AD2000(33g), AD900x(31g) and AD500x(19g) 53mm drivers to the cause in this particular order. Main reason I got em was to try driver swapping into the cheaper AD500x housing, which honestly works quite well. '

Generally the AD2k driver in the cheaper angled housings sounds better than both of the others. The dynamics (slam) of it are quite good, the mids are forward as with the original AD2k, the treble is there but its much more relaxed than the AD900x (which is particularly bright in a comparison). The sub-bass was also boosted due to the larger air volume (especially compared to the AD900x which has very, very little bass in general and AD500x, which is mostly mid bass).

Never knew VIP1000 had those functions. Should have guessed that huge box does something but it's hard to notice anything after seeing that frame around the ear design.

Hmm... AKG was $1500 five years ago. I get mobius is what it is for $399 but $1500 is a lot of money. Take $399 Fostex and put $1000 tech on it. I'd buy that.

Exactly good head tracking is a very simple way for headphones to feel like you are listening to speakers. Mind you that is DSP so some people will automatically not like that (especially if it compromises sound, which it generally does). The HTRF implementation would need to be very well implemented and it would also need adjustment per user for it to actually sound good. Not to mention it requires circuitry in the headphone itself which needs to be powered (or a external dsp circuit with only the sensor in the headphone). This adds a quite bit more complexity to the entire thing.

Sennheiser HD 560S

E4FBFD7E-04EC-4BC3-A841-B489B82F5834.jpeg

From DIY Audio Heaven:

“It has the looks and mechanics of the current HD5xx range but the driver is renewed. It has a different voicecoil and different material membrane and is better damped and is built on the same ‘frame’ so looks the same as other HD 5xx drivers but… isn’t.
It is closer to the HD6xx range in some aspects than the HD5xx range. Where the HD6xx series does not have angled drivers or pads the HD560S has its driver angled by about 9°. Below the driver from the front and from the back.”

Where did you find these?
They don't look genuine, but they do look VERY interesting.
