The Headphone Driver Pics Thread

Well, you’re not supposed to take the grilles off at all. So no, there is no ‘the moment you take off the grilles you’re supposed to.’ That’s why they’re there in the first place.

I only took it off to get a closeup view and maybe a few pics. My boneheaded accident happened within 10 seconds of removing the grille. Unfortunately, my curious nature burned me in this instance.

I definitely learned my lesson though. The grilles will stay on these drivers, period. Besides, they don’t hurt anything by being there! They are transparent to the sound, so I’ll take the protection of them being there any day!

Oh well, at least it wasn’t for nothing. If the driver wasn’t damaged, I wouldn’t have been able to verify they were genuine drivers. So at least something good came out of it.

Have you gotten any shell to try out the drivers yet? Also I recommend using BaoPals to look at stuff from TaoBao and BaoPals also gets results from Tmalls at the same time. You can look up whatever on BaoPals and it will fetch results from both TaoBao and Tmall.

Also I have updated my BaoPals collection here with some drivers, finally! https://www.baopals.com/discover/therealestlad/collections/fine-additions-to-my-collection

Will you be selling the Ora drivers you bought from Aliexpress at some stage? If so then to give you an idea of where I live: New Zealand, Auckland.

I wasn’t planning on it. I’m planning something very special with them :)

What is it? Also didn't I ask you about trying out the hd800s? Speaking of hd800s I once tried out an hd800 from a store that my dad took me to on a 30 minute long trip because he respected that I want to try 'em out and I really liked the hd800 but there was a very weird sounding peak thing? That was why I ended up liking the Clears more just because the peak was not there. Also that shop has Stax and the Voce headphones and also I think I saw that Sennheiser HE-1 in store? Anyways the store is called AVWorld and it is the only store or hi-fi store that really interested me. I found the shop online kind of by accident (iirc) when I was looking to try out a Grado headphones or the Hifiman Ananda. Also I have only tried out there the Focal elear and clear, Aeon open or closed (cannot remember), Hd700 and 800 (not 800s because I am a fool), Edition XX, and hd650 (cannot recall). All the headphones were put up to this huge as heck Chord amplifier thing? I think it was the Hugo TT2 and I saw the price tag being somewhere around 8000-10000NZD at the store and I just thought it was kind of funny as hell that an amplifier costs a car.

Also the headphone shells from TaoBao seem super cheap but you need to use BaoPal and TaoBao agents (for contacting the seller and to place your order I think) and the process is going to be a bit tiring but it is worth it although I have never tried this. Or maybe go find a really cheap headphone in your country and use it as a shell. I think those cheap Superlux headphones may do but they aren't open back and simply taking off the shell cover is sort of going to be not worth the effort I think.

I also examined a cross section of the diaphragm under a 1000x microscope
Haha, love the dedication! It's a shame the driver broke but atleast something good came out of it.

The seller had 500 pairs, and someone bought almost all of them within a few hours
Could have been ORA. Seems weird they would allow selling those drivers like that.
The tool I used to pry up the protective grille was attracted to the magnet, and broke right through the diaphragm :_(
I did that to Sony mdr-f1 driver. Of course it had to happen with a driver that can't be replaced 😑

Oh wow, I didn’t think of that.

Maybe the factory that made them were ordered to destroy them, and instead sold them (which does happen in China). If Ora found out (which they do read their thread on HeadFi, so they would have seen the post right away), they may have made them stop selling them. Or at least bought them all to protect the dilution of their IP.

I guess we’ll never know. Or at least we’ll wait and see if any boutique audio sellers come out with a pure graphene driver headphone in the near future. Then we’ll know where they all went.

This ones a bit surprising as I was not expecting angled driver or any dampening inside the cups. Magnet is tiny. Something usually seen in a $10 headphone. That weird thing at the bottom inside the felt ring reminded me of Beyerdynamic dt1990.
