The Headphone Driver Pics Thread

Looks very similar to my M9X! I have pics of it somewhere in this thread. I think the diaphragm in my one has a slightly greyish tint which would probably be that ceramic coating.

I wonder how the two compare to each other, I remember being very disappointed with the lack of a soundstage. I might mod one in the future as I got two of them~

I saw your pics. It seems to be very simmilar to mine.

The sound stage of M9's was not much wide than current models, but the sound stage level was simmilar to other monitor's

I think its midrange was so beautiful... I shares simmilar sound signatures to other audio-technica monitor models

For me, the M9X, I find it has a very, old fashioned but pleasant sound signature. Fantastically detailed too but I just think the soundstage is so... Flat and two dimensional

I just had a thought.
Sometimes specifically these types of planars get 'stuck'.
You might only need to wake it up with a very quick loud blast of thumpy/bassy music.

I had a U70 that had one 'sticky' driver.
After a sudden blast of relatively high volume it would wake up, and then I could turn it back down to normal listening volumes and it would just continue to play music happily for a while.

Definitely worth a shot, and not dangerous at all for the driver.

Who likes unicorn-level rare stuff?
Here's another internet world-first.

Pioneer SE-A8

36mm
Ceramic Titanium Diaphragm

Four rear vents!?!?
I'm very tempted to peel off this purple disk......

Trio KH-0.5

The world's first flathead earbud.
Amazing how the fundamental design of these drivers has barely changed at all until today.

Notice the exposed voice wire.
In modern buds, these wires are entirely coated in some kind of cement.

Damn, I'm surprised that one side is working with how these are built

Guess for being the first there was some issues that had to be discovered

Great! However, I am a bit disappointed... The cans are missing dampers.
The damping is mostly from the damping cap on the rear of the driver and the rubber ring on the damping cap that connects to the earcups via those three prongs for vibration damping (modern non-angled Teslas do the same thing such as the DT 1770/1990 and Amiron Home). They aren’t as damped as the DT 700/900 Pro X though as those have a more enclosed damping cap and thicker foam disc in front of the driver. The Stellar.45 drivers themselves are quite well damped inherently.

Just opened my DT 700 Pro X to see the difference.

I have both DT 700 Pro X and DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition, so i wonder if you could change the drivers around.

The DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X driver are exactly the same btw. Looks the same in both and when you buy replacements it’s for both DT 700/900. As you can see they tweaked the damping cap and baffle on the DT 770 Pro X.
Just tested that every part between them is interchangeable. I can even use the earpads from DT 700 Pro X with my Anniversary model as the plastic ring (keeping things together) in front of the baffle is exactly the same.

I will take some measurements to see how the pads and the thicker foam from DT 700 Pro X change the sound with DT 770 Pro X.
