No I don't have K99 just had to fix my SONY-SA5000 all I can say IMO they sound alot better than they did with the stock drivers and I have read a fare few write up's that said the K99-K100 sound better in open Headphones not sure if thats a fact or not..I don't have any Focal's.. I have Grado GS1000i, Sony mdr-z1r, mdr-z7m2, SA5000, IER-M9, Mrspeakers ether-C-flow,Aeon flow Closed, I wouldn't say that the K100 in SA5000 are as good or better just different and they sound good, Cheers

Tell me those aren’t (3) metal weights at the bottom of each cup to artificially make the headphone heavier and more ‘substantial’ haha

I initially thought that this was a magnet lock or something along those lines :D

Can you compare the K100 headphone to the GS, MDRs and SA5000?

Had to remove the fabric that's covering the front and back of the drivers.
Don't mind the ugly stuff around the edge of the drivers, it's the tape that's used to stick the fabric on

Bad paint job.

Sorry for the poor pics

Very cool, thanks. Out of curiosity, was there any reason in particular why this fabric had to go?

It's just me curious on how and how much the fabric that was originally sticked on both side of the drivers affected the headphone's sonic wise

Thanks for explanation. And did it change performance of those cans? I would carefully assume that it shouldn't in any audible way.

To my surprise, there's sonic difference between them. The differences is nothing major, but enough for one to pick on the changes

I always thought that fabric or mesh covers were designed to protect drivers and not influence sound. But live and learn as they say, fabric covers often affect regular speakers so I shouldn't be surprised about hteir impact on cans :p

Thanks though!

Just committed and bought both types of K100 drivers on AliExpress, and the 53mm bio drivers that look like they're made by Foster as well. Because... well, I guess I'm obsessed and all of this chatter in this thread sold me on it

Any of you guys know anything about these 40mm planars?

I have to admit, I have zero experience with building/modding planar headphones. But the fact that they are a direct swap into pretty much any dynamic headphone (like Grado style shells for example) opens up a lot of possibilities. That is, assuming they sound good.
