poignant sentence lurks at the end...

yes I agree. That guy on the video with that voice should be a character on The Simpsons.
James I noticed the player has side buttons for volume, does it also have them for next/previous song selection or is the wheel used?

What should I make of that...

I like how the volume is permanently shown in numbers at the top left corner.

I'm a big fan of apple's scroll wheel, however if badly implemented, the scrolling may become too sensitive, or a press may be misinterpret as a scroll (not sure if you can press the scroll wheel on the X5). Will wait and see.

However, the UI looks promising and seems user friendly enough. I'm definitely excited enough to hold off all dap purchases to wait for ClieOS's review haha.

I think the volume rocker is HW based incase if screen is locked and there might be UI based as well in the play screen?
if you asked that the same volume rocker keys will be used for << / >> tracks then I guess no, IMHO. if you asked whether is it on the other side only our jim has the answer.

I like those dedicated hardware volume controls of X5. User interface is generally smooth, though there is still room for improvement (I understand that it has not been finalized).

I will give an example to show how a refined firmware can accelerate the response of a seemingly old/slow SoC.

Sansa Clip+ was released more than 4 years ago with a SoC clock rate of 50% of X3's. With stock Sansa firmware and 64GB of stored mp3s, Clip+ takes >10 seconds to start up and is quite slow to operate. With the Rockbox firmware and 64GB of stored mp3s, Clip+ takes 1-2 seconds to start up and responds to most user controls instantaneously without any delay. Since the UI is as fast as your pressing a button, you can hardly get much faster than that kind of UI speed (assuming there is no scrolling wheel). Don't just take my words-- compare a Rockbox Clip+ to any DAP without scroll wheel and you will see that yourself.

And like others have said, comparing spec's of different CPU architectures does not make sense and won't tell you much.

I will also be cautious with user opinions from any internet forum. Some of those opinions may be from highly experienced engineers / scientists, while others may be from a drunk teenager. The best way is to consult real experts, do research and test it by yourself.

No intention to be disparaging only that the voice sounds comical and that it would be fun to have a character like that on The Simpsons.

Dear James,

I really like how stable the UI from your video, but would u mind to make an optional hiqh quality case of this FIIO X5, like silicon or whatever that helps our grip of the player and cover all of the player unless the screen to enchance the appearence of FIIO X5 ( because a look from distance it looks like the side of screen player seems blank although it is not XD)

Regards,
Your enthusiastic customer's candidate of FIIO X5 :D
