The Fiio X5 Thread

Thanks Fiio!!! I will pass by the seller later today and see what they can do. It's just that this is the only player I have and I'll have nothing to listen to once I send it for repair. The seller has been very good with customer service so I'll see later what they can do for me. Appreciate your responses.
  Dear Zimmermann,

As the X5 has stopped production for some time, the seller may not have stocks left. So you may need to send it back to us for repair. But you can aslo try to contact your seller first and see whether he can offer help for you. But if the seller fails to help or you would like to send it back directly, please send an email to support@fiio.net. We will provide our detailed contact information to you. Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.

Best regards

Hi

Thanks a lot for trying to help and sorry for late answer.

So I can confirm that even with a different laptop (win10) and different USB cable the fiio x5 is not recognised.

I have setup mass storage. It is on very latest firmware for Gen 1. I know I could just remove cards and use external card reader but in the PST one of my cards got corrupted using this method-so not very keen on doing this again.

Any other ideas?

Dear csaba73,

You may try to update the firmware to FW2.7 to see whether it helps.

Thanks a lot. I am already on FW2.7. Do you have other ideas?

Dear csaba73,

If you have also tried another USB cables, USB ports, and select the correct USB mode, it may be hardware issue with your X5.

Best regards

Man I really want to upgrade to a FiiO X5iii or A&K JR but I can never go away from mechanical controls and the original classic design is just so photogenic.

I just wanted to follow up on my question from a month ago or so...

I finally got a SanDisk 256GB card and can confirm that the X5 will work correctly with the card.  However, it appears to be somewhat sensitive to the speed of the card, so not all cards will work, as a Samsung card I have will not work properly.

This is with the current FW. Not sure if there is a difference with earlier FW.

I'm very pleased by my X5(I) as transport on coaxial connection for Chord Mojo...the batery of X5 last more than 20 hours of playback.

Hey, I'm a novice at this stuff.  I was wondering if someone could give me a few suggestions or point me in the right direction.

I have the Fiio X5 2nd Gen, with a Norne Therium cable pushing current to a Shure SE846.  I think it's a pretty kick ass setup, but I just want to make sure I'm doing the right stuff on the Fiio end to get the most out of it.

Should I set the Gain to High or Low?  I'm only driving either the Shure SE846 or the AKG K3003, and both are IEMs.  Also, do you think adding an amplifier into the equation would better the listening experience?  If so what amps would be good?  I see that Fiio just came out with the A5, but I think these IEMs are getting enough power already, no?

You should have enough power for either!

Set low to gain for those two IEMs for a more granular volume adjustment.

As for a good AMP, I would recommend E12A From FiiO. Haven't really heard A5 to speak of it.

@csaba73 I have found not all usb cables work for data transfer mode and charging myself. You need a good cable.

My first X5, which I loved very much, started wiping my SanDisk 200GB memory card every other play. Something is wrong with the X5. So a week or two ago I bought another brand new, never opened X5 and put the same card into it. No problems, it works swell. Back to being happy again. Yesterday my Fiio X5iii arrived. Not much need for the X5 anymore. It was a good two weeks though. I never tried the X5ii or the X7. So now I have two X3 and 2 X5 first generation units. (as well as many Ipod 80gb and 160gb units.) My cast off supply has some pretty nice items.

Can you compare between the X5 1st gen and the Fiio X5iii?

I want to upgrade myself.
