The Fiio X5 Thread

What is the crappy CD player you are comparing against? Why are you using a crappy one?

Technics SL-PD687 Compact CD Changer

I will get a new one eventually, but I just finally upgraded my speakers. I listen to portable setup more than home setup.

My point was that I thought I could use my X5i as a digital source (lossless etc) that would replace my CD player. There is to big a difference in SQ for that to work out for me. My speakers aren't but the best but still resolve detail well enough to disearn a big difference. (PSB T-Tower)

My CD player cost thousands and I wouldn't say there was a big difference. Something wrong somewhere?

Are you comparing the exact same files? Are the files on the X5 files from the CD or downloaded elsewhere?

If they are different what are the two sources of the music?

CD files ripped to ALAC vs the CD directly. From the same source.

I'm out of ideas then! Sorry to hear it's not working for you.

You're most probably having a CD player which applies a roll off over the music so it sounds way smoother, which creates a sensation of fuzziness and euphoria over the sound, while X5 is more neutral and letting the treble shine will sound bad as many older CDs have really poor mastering.

That or your X5 is broken and you need a pro shop to take a look at it

I am very happy with my X5i as a portable device. If it broke, I would get another Fiio player in a heartbeat. It is a huge upgrade over my phone using headphones.

Just not as a digital source for my home system.

The last post could be an explaination. I only compared two CD's. I will try with some more recent recordings.

Hi Guys, just want to ask what's wrong with my X5i. Been using it since March this year updated to the latest firmware. I'm getting less than 4 hours of battery life with it, using my uber sensitive CIEM with 320kbps Mp3s. I dont think this is normal. Is there anything I can do to improve battery life?

Dear Zimmermann,

Hi Fiio,

Did the test already before and repeated it just now. I can confirm that battery life is still less than 4 hours. This is after fully charging my X5. Is this something that warranty covers?

Yes of course, seller will be Egghead from Philippines.

Dear Zimmermann,

As the X5 has stopped production for some time, the seller may not have stocks left. So you may need to send it back to us for repair. But you can aslo try to contact your seller first and see whether he can offer help for you. But if the seller fails to help or you would like to send it back directly, please send an email to support@fiio.net. We will provide our detailed contact information to you. Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.

Best regards
