The Fiio X5 Thread

That would be even better than having just one customisable setting, yes :)
Any idea why my OTG isn't working ('no music found', v1.22 beta)?
PS I think the scrollwheel turns the correct way and it would seem strange to me to have it going the other way.

Does anyone know if it's ok to use a charger that's beyond the recommended 5V 2A? If I used a 5V 6A charger would it charge faster or explode?

When my X5 arrived I noticed a powerplug was not included. I plugged in a Sony Ericsson that I had lying around and It charged within 2.5 hours! Your post made me aware I might have done something wrong. I just checked, it is a 5V 700mA.

any charge which is 5V output ,and the output current is bigger than 500mA is OK.

sorry, hope you can report the bugs of beta version to us directly in the future.

anyway, the OTG can only supports 6 kinds of U-disk, we have found there are 2 kinds of  U-disk will have problem to supports, each kind of U-Disk used different I/O chip.

Hi James
Thanks for the reply. I pretty much bought the X5 for OTG - to play all the music on my external HD while at work.
So this is disappointing - it is a standard Seagate HD. Will support for the other disks be added? I'm hardly going to buy another 1TB HD and 'hope' that it is supported. Thanks

In theory, any charger with the correct voltage and higher than required current supply would work. In practise, you need to check to make sure the power supply is "regulated" and there is a higher possibility that power supplies with very high current output are "unregulated". Unregulated PSUs would put out about 30% higher voltage than specified when lightly loaded and may be a hazard to the X5--although I remember it having overvoltage protection, better safe than sorry :)

10 years ago I earned my current custom title by doing something stupid with power supply units

about the build in EQ , just talk with our engineer, a solution as below:

all the EQ mode can be customed in the new firmware. it means you can change the EQ setting and them save it to what every you need for rock, classic ...

will it a better solution ?

Yes, absolutely perfect for the EQ!

By the way I'm really digging the sound, UI, and gapless in FW1.22 beta. Definitely in the right direction! I know I really shouldn't post about beta firmware but I just can't help myself. I believe others will want to hear about some positive news.

Hey! So how is the sound quality paired with the m-100?! Thanks!

Hi! I can't comment on this yet, simply because i just upgraded from Nokia N91-8gb and Koss Porta pro. The only thing that i can say is after i tried the x5+m100 combo, i can't bear to listen the n91 anymore, which is sad because i love this phone. I guess I'll leave it for cycling paired with a decent pair of Bluetooth headphones. (hope i made myself clear, sorry for my bad English)

I'm a developer and having a bit of experience with feature phones and smartphones, I have to say I'm gladly surprised by how Fiio is handling the bugs and almost a direct channel with their developer team and us.

This is a DAP, a high quality sound player, SQ has to be the priority, then (if you ask me) stability and then usability.

Also, if you use a BETA firmware, be ready to experience a LOT of bugs, that's the norm when a BETA software is used.

I'm happy with most of the improvements, some are not important for me, some I don't agree with, but I understand this is not a product that is made for ME and my preferences.

A bit out of topic, Joe, James, please don't forget your little brother the X3. If all these improvement for the X5 are ported to the X3... wow!

Keep up the good work.

  Guys,

Got my X5 today, was able to grab one of three available from Focus Camera yesterday. Anyways, I've encountered a fairly big problem in that 24/88 FLAC files play with a ton of static. Even after I pause playback and try navigating the menus, I hear mechancial noise and static in the earphones with every button push. It stays noisy until I go and play a non 24/88 FLAC file. Has anyone else seen this? Any help is appreciated, I like what I see so far. I am using Shure SE846 earphones and tried the 1.20 and 1.22 Beta firmwares and have the same FLAC issue.

Thanks,

Y2J

Thats a fairly big problem for me also as I have hundreds of sacd albums ripped to  24/88/176 flac  .It would be nice to know if fiio are looking into this and if they intend to support 24/88/176 flac.

According to certain Chinese website.  X3 and X5 outputs more power at less than 1% THD point than the DX90.  This means good news for those that have X3 or are purchasing X5 with less sensitive headphones since it will give you more power for those less sensitive headphones without providing lots of distortion.

This is just measurements, listening sessions may differ.
