The Fiio X5 Thread

I was thinking Cayin, though I haven't heard either one. The Cayin does seem to be a favorite around here. If I did begin stacking, that's where I would start. The way it's been described is quite enticing.

Yes, Cayin C5 sounds great and is very powerful - makes it a bit challenging to use with IEM.

Guys i just ordered a 1st gen fiio x5. Its still intransit. I have no experience with high end dap's whatsoever. My current dap is clip plus. Now to my question, i already own a fiio e11k. Do you think i should pair the e11k with x5 or will the x5 be better on its own?

X5 has enough juice already and still you cld try adding it to the chain and see how it reveals your cans....you be the judge and you will know soon, since you will have both.

On a power output level they are about the same so really no need to stack. You may prefer one sound over the other so after you volume match it would simply be a personal preference. Why don't you test it with the line out from the X5 and report back which you prefer.

Sorry for the lack of love for the good old X5 these days :frowning2: Back then the firmware guys did say there would be another firmware upgrade for this but they didn't exactly say when

Actually firmware progress has been a bit slow for the new players too. If you look carefully at the release schedule for each individual player, we haven't exactly been churning them out on a monthly basis for each player like we once did for the original X5. And the focus has been on fixes for bugs, some of which may not even exist on the current X5 firmware (5800 track limit comes to mind).

We'd like to throw money at the problem of sluggish firmware updates, god knows we have some to throw around  But there is a serious lack of suitable programmers to be employed :deadhorse: The Android programmers that are all the rage now (and those working on the X7) don't exactly know their way around a custom low-level-optimized OS as used on the other X players either...

It is actually quite amazing how hidden the screen protector is.

To see it, you need to look very closely at the edges of your screen where in certain light conditions, you'll see the edge. It is a brilliant job though and is really hard to see!!

I just sent an email to Fiio to see what the process to getting my scroll wheel repaired is.  It seems to have spread to the button now too.  It can take multiple presses to even get Play/Stop to work........

If I need to mail it to China (assuming I will) what's the turn around time, and am I footing the bill for shipping?

Hello Gangrel,

If you purxhased your X5 locally you should be able to arrange for your X5 to be shipped back for repair through your regional distributor. Ask your retailer for their FiiO distributor's contact, contact them and tell them you have an X5 you'd like to be shipped back to China with the next batch of units for repair, that should get your X5 a free lift to China  You may keep in contact with support@fiio.net to coordinate the process.
