so, your x5 also creates distortions with these said records? Technically this was the question, if anybody's else x5 creates distortion with bad recordings.
I would word it more like 'the X5 shows/reveals the distortions' not creates them.
If you want to avoid hearing it listen with a less resolving player and not very detailed headphones.
i do not necessarly want to avoid the distortions, i wanted to be sure that my unit is working how it should. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
Need to know something. I'm in the process of getting the X5 but am very curious about this. Does an amp like the FiiO E12A make any difference with the X5 for IEMs? (Westone W40 in my case). Or it doesn't need an amp at all? X3 definitely does, but I don't know about X5.
Thanks
Thanks Andrew. And what about bass? The amp gives me thunderous bass with these IEMs, while unamped the bass is much weaker. Is X5 equalizer efficient?
This site is pretty good to check on the poor dynamic range of albums. Here is the Metallica album list:

I see a lot of really REALLY bad dynamic range which is usually from bad mastering which usually comes with weird distortion too. They have some good albums for dynamic range but you need to know which ones to look for.
Can't help you there, I want accurate bass. Nothing added, just nice and tight, if it was recorded that way.
i think that you will use x5 with e12A also...
it will imrpoove the sound, because x5 has a better DAC section than x3..
