Pulled the trigger on Hiby R4 Evangelion Edition. Although I reviewed the R4 base version, just couldn't resist the look of this. Now the waiting begins 😴

Owners of KA15 and Onyx XI1, which one is warmer?

In stock form onix is warmer. But ka15 has PEQ to play with so u can make it any tonality you wish for (ie more versatile).

Bueno, como regla general, en los estudios usan ecualizador y mezclan la música por y para nosotros.

For a certain period of my life I worked for an audio/video production house, and I recognize, on the iMAC screen, the PRO-TOOLS program screen with which they processed audio tracks.

Between plugins and DSP effects, I saw (heard) incredible things being done, such as transforming the timbre of a speaker's voice so as to make it unrecognizable.

In the musical field I have no idea what kind of processing is performed, but I imagine it is significant in that case too.

Hey folks,

I had some time this morning and decided to measure all the different after markter tips I aquired since starting the hobby. I used the Hisenior Mega5-EST since I found these to be a fairly neutral set. I also used Divinus Velvet (reular bore) tips as my refence point since they are my go to when getting new IEMs.

I used Room EQ Wizard with a clone 711 coupler to measure the frequencies, only on the right channel. I did four sweeps per measurement. All graphs were normalized at the 85 dB at 1 kHz. Tips were inserted as deeply as possible to achieve the best seal.

I found some interesting things: most ear tips only had an impact on the region above 3 kHz (Coreir Brass, Eletech Baroque, Final Type E, Penon Liquer, Render, Spinfit CP100, Spinfit W1, Tangzu Sancai Wide Bore.

The Tangzu Sancai (regular bore) measure identical to the Divinus Velvet (regular bore), which is nice since I often reached for the Sancai when I had issues with pressure build-up with the Velvets.

The only tips I found that had an impact on the lower frequencies were the Divinus Velvet Wide Bore and the Dunu S&S, both elevating the sub-bass, bass and lower mid area slightly ~ 1 to 2 dB. The Divinus Velvet Wide Bore also had an impact on the presence and brilliance are with slight elevation of ~ 1 to 3 dB between 5 to 8 kHz followed by a decrease from 8 to ~ 12 kHz. Dunu S&S were almost similar in these regions.

Some ear tips (Eletech Baroque, Final Type E, Moondrop Spring Tips and Spinfit CP100) showed a weird bend around 150 Hz. Don't know what to make of this.

It is interesting to see how tips have an impact on the frequency response. While most show only changes in the region beyon 3 kHz, some also drastically impact the bass and (lower) mids. I would have expected some tips to have a bigger impact on the frequency response tho. The Coreir Brass, for example, I expected to impact the whole upper mids and treble region. Or the Render tips, which are a hybrid foam tip with an outer silicone layer, to elevate the bass.

Overall, I think the most important thing about tips are fit, comfort or seal which are always subjective. They are capable of changing the frequency response and therefore the sound of IEMs, but these changes often fall into the area of marging of error, unit variance or (acceptable) channel imbalance.

Attached you find the graphs of all measured tips. Always included are the graph of the Divinus Velvet (regular bore) as a reference points.

I might redo these measurements once I have acquired some more tips.

Thanks for reading!

Home server => DX300 => G5 => Penon 12 wire cable => Voltage (both switches down)

Such an entertaining but technical sound. I’m thinking about adding this one to make a 1-2 combo with Cantor 🔥

That ASOS+X is one of my most favorite cables ever.

I usually love the fit and sound of the normal KZ tips, but wow... the suggestion to add Penon Liqueur tips... wow they really work! The more I listen to the Trio the more I realize... It's nearly end-game sound for me... bassy but not too bloated, very clear and clean midrange, with plenty of treble sparkle without being harsh. I have them on the overbearing NiceHCK BlackCat oil-soaked cable... provides plenty of power and possibly improves soundstage? Comparing them to the XuanNv [on same cable] I can say there's less midbass, but they can still thump when needed... there's more of an open treble sound for sure. Overall a more mature and restrained sound, but sometimes... that's not a bad thing.

Fiio House sound is typically clean, Onyx will be cleaner.

@Ozboyblu

I wore purple. Small snippet/spoiler. Like @o0genesis0o eloquently put it. Shillers are right.

And, this goes beyond just having listened to the Penon Fan 3, the the Shock. And the Rival. But more later.

Hi!

The new Dunu IEM is great; very close to the L-shaped with bass sounding very good. I will have more impressions later but, from my 15 minutes with them, there's something extremely nice in this set.

Tell me your impressions about the Shock!

THX! A great idea and a deserving activity. If only you knew how to post it so that it is always accessible. That way it gets lost in the bowels of this thread.

Thank you. That is true, eventually it will get buried in this thread. I might think about another place to post somewhere more accesible.

Good job!

As for your query above, the ears take the entire frequency response as a whole. We don't just hear the 3 kHz band in isolation.

So for eartips that boost the 3 kHz, that will make the bass sound less, and vice versa.

Can anyone provide information?

I'd check the CanJam thread since it was demoed at the show.

I don’t know who that is but he looks a helluva lot like Jack Kerouac
Can't tell if serious, but I'll bite. That's Nathan Fillion. Probably most known for his role in the cult-classic TV show Firefly.
