April Fool's is not even here in 2024, but Shanling has a CD player going at a very audacious $16,999 USD!!
There's a more wicked $18,999 USD variant which comes with a headphone amp module!

Presenting the Shanling CD-T35

Only 99 units available worldwide. Ie there are only 99 lucky kidney sellers that can get their paws on this. Perhaps even selling away 1 kidney may not allow one to sample the audio nirvana of this $17000 USD monstrosity, but that's why audiophiles are born with 2 kidneys!

Specs:
- Philips CD-Pro 2 CD player
- Dual AKM AK4499EQ DACs
- 4x hand-matched 12AU7 tubes
- Wi-Fi for DLNA, and Airplay playback, streaming including Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music and Spotify
- HD touch-screen, compatible with Shanling’s companion app
- 4 gain stages, up to 7.6 W @ 32 Ohm output

I love how it looks and I like CDs as much as the next guy...but that price is insane - I doubt it'll play music significantly better than a Sony Discman (or whatever the modern equivalent is.) I assume this is for people who hate money and want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Shouldn't it at least be able to hold like...100 CDs? Or come with some Focal speakers or something? Is its laser made from diamonds?

CD player looks like a drone.

Looks like 100% unadulterated snake oil

It's rich people's money anyhow, I reckon this will probably sell quick.

Looks like a Linksys router

Yeah additionally it looks like some robot vacuum cleaner that picks up thrash on the floor.

Jokes aside, they just need 99 rich cats to peddle this router/drone thingy to, and the company will be laughing their way to the bank. But I won't be surprised there will actually be rich folks who will buy this.

Got a hypothetical for the Discovery gang this AM.

If you could buy any set right now, the price being completely left out of the equation, what ONE set would you be buying?

I’ll start, Vision Ears VE10

Now that thing reminds me of my turntable, which I purchased 1985 and it was expensive, but not that crazy $$$.

I am a cd guy, but this thing will never be in my eyesight beyond these posts, and purely based on the absurd price. That is Shanling marketing to an elite income. I could buy my elite iem, headphones, and source for the price of that thing.

Newer discovery for me: Aune S17 Pro.
Looks like a heck of a deal for a true balanced class a amp.
They are extremely powerful and tbh I'm unsure how my IEMs will pair with it, but it looks neat and I can't wait to experiment with it.
I do have a passive pre amp I could use to fine tune the volume if needed.
#Stoked

pairs very well with IEM even on full power mode

Effect Audio Gaea just based on looks alone. I love the paired cable too.

Lots of drama around this set, but I'd still like to get the Empire Ears Raven with the never-to-be-released piano black faceplate.
