I'm just loving this combination Sony WM1ZM2 + Audio Technica ATH-IEX1 (with Vortex Eddie Square cable). Female vocals sounds really really good on this setup! 😍

Howdy folks,

My review of KiwiEars Singolo is online on head-fi and my blog.

I’m conflicted about the Singolo. On the one hand, it demonstrates a fascinating level of technical expertise that is objectively verifiable. On the other hand, beside the great bass response, the actual sonic performance does not reach beyond the “acceptable” level established by the old guards like the Moondrop Aria. And then, we have the fit problem mentioned by many users. Whilst I’m very enthusiastic about the technology and technique presented here, I cannot recommend Singolo in 2024 unless you are would like to support the company and the tuner.

What I like about this IEM:

  • Bass
  • Technology
What could be improved:

  • Fit
  • Lack of treble energy
Absolute Sonic Quality Rating: 3/5 - Acceptable

Bias Score: 3/5 - I’m lukewarm about this IEM

You vs the Helmholtz resonator she told you not to worry about.

I was intrigued on Xuan NV because how pretty it is and it seems to be good balanced tuning,
but then i come across uuuh, Akros review and comparison

In which he change his opinion on Trio and rank them higher after getting the "right" eartip that give better insertion
while he thinks Rhapsody still have an edge over Trio, against Xuan Nv?
"There is nothing in Xuan Nv can do better than this (Trio)"

also he noted that had Trio is released by different brand like Moondrop, the audio community will rave about it way harder than it is now
---
I suppose back to waiting for Aful Explorer

I gave up on the Xuan Nv because of this video and ordered the Trio for 20$.

Start to enjoy comparisons & synergies of DACs and all-BAs and hybrids:

(8 by 8 are chosen (felt sorry for the exclusion of many others; may repeat my EDI training...) some dongles, like iBasso, are for purely decorative purposes).

To me, it is pinnacle of the inner gratification in this hobby (with an icing on a proverbial cake being cable matching (just the colours for me & more subtleties for capable audiophiles :))

Starting into it, I could not help reflecting on the value and returm per recent debates.
In most of the cases, one definitely gets more by paying more, as per seminal Prof. @baskingshark dissertation in the field :) Yet, the returns are strongly diminishing (especially above $100-$300 as per my limited experience). Nevertheless, if one is looking for some specific features to enjoy their music to the very best and can afford it - it can be all perfectly worth it (as long as you put the music first, IMHO).

Have you shared any impressions of the E1DA? The amount of customisation possible with that DAC seems interesting.

New Adonis model is now live:

Timmy listened to a demo, said bass was bloated.

Sick IEM shells, lovely cable and pretty box, QoA absolutely nailed the presentation but I've heard they are meh at tuning much like Kinera who is apparently a sister brand.

Here is my review of FlipEars Aether. This is a 4BA IEM and is surprisingly tuned very well. This certainly should get a mention when we talk about Night Oblivion Butastur, 7th Acoustic Supernova, and other well-tuned BA IEMs.

https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/flipears-aether.26799/review/33879/

Pros:
* Nice impactful bass mimicking a DD bass
* Warm and rich musical timber
* Good technical aspects: deep soundstage, nice instrument separation,
* Micro-detail retrieval
* Good clarity and resolution in sound
* Beautiful shell design
* Decent accessories

Cons:
* Very wide nozzle, which can cause fit issues

Absolutely, using even a simpler equalizer is very cost-effective (that is why I feel that there is a carefully cultuvated mantra that "real audiophiles" do not equalize - they spend money to support the hobby).

Then DSP can bring it to the next level (delays are only crucial for gaming and live sreaming, not for pure music enjoyment). Hiby MSEB is quite good to start with, so Joe taking it further sounds great.

An ultimate solution in this direction (at least according to the Science Forum here) is Realizer. Smyth Realizer - https://smyth-research.com/

Again, I just wish multichanel recordings becoming a reality to have all real venue acoustics, sound layerings, etc. rather than artificially (or semi-artificially) recreating it.
I’ve never tried it, but wouldn’t playback of a Dolby Atmos song (from Amazon Unlimited) on a Dolby Atmos home theatre setup be what you’re looking for ?

KZ ZS10 Pro 2 and KZ Merga are in transit, with the ZS10 pro landing sometime next week. Merga a bit after that. The CCA Hydro, which is the one I truly want to hear, hasn't even shipped yet. So that'll be awhile. Oh those waits.
