Awesome for the people who don't have a Beyerdynamic but want one with the custom colors.
 
Sucks for those that already bought one but didn't want to pay $100-$170 plus just for some colors.
Now the customs are at a really great price.
 
Is it just a price drop? Or Beyer coming out with some new Beyers soon.
 
There was 2003 and 2005. That was quick..... I don't why.
But now 2010 I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if Beyer was coming with another new version.

This could reflect the strength of the U.S. Dollar vs the Euro as opposed to a real price drop.
 
We need to see if the German MANUFAKTUR site dropped the price too.  Anyone have before/after data?
 
We could also just ask the U.S. beyer guys in the Long Island office ... they are very responsive and would tell us the truth ... but it's so much more fun to puzzle these things out on our own, isn't it!
 
I haven't re-done the analysis lately, but a while back the German site (even the English version of it) offered more choices than the U.S. site as far as MANUFAKTUR goes.
 
The 880/600 continue to amaze.  I did some fast-switch A/B'ing tonight of a Stax 404 fed from a Stax 717 vs 880/600 powered by a QESLabs HPBA designed specifically for 600-ohm phones.  Source was a Wadia CDP playing various violin and orchestral pieces -- I dupe'd the balanced output from the CDP so that both rigs played simultaneously, and carefully matched levels.

Anyone in these parts have the AH-D5000, or have had enough experience with them to compare to the DT880/600... or more specifically to the DT770/600 ?
 
I'm just wondering if for classical, jazz, acoustic, etc. they would be a better solution than the DT770's, as much as I like them.
I have read much about the big bass... but not all feel this way.
 
So I'm wondering if those that listen to more acoustic (as opposed to electronic) music can tell me how they compare to what we in this thread know well.

Sure the D5K behaves better on classical, jazz & acoustic than the DT770, that ain't difficult.
 
It's like asking for a car that outperforms the old VW Beetle in a quartermile dragrace. The D5K is a Vauxhall Vectra 2.0i and the DT880'600 an Aston Martin DB6 in this comparison.

Would somebody please tell me how large the pads are on these? I'm interested in the internal diameter and depth to see if I could wear them comfortably. If they are large enough I may see if I can get a demo somewhere. Thanks

They are quite large, the cups fit completely around my medium-sized ears. They are [size=x-small]circumaural [/size] rather than on-ear headphones. I was actually surprised when I received my pair, I thought the cups would be much smaller than they were.

Thanks genpatton7 & TheWuss. I expect I will just continue to look for a new set of IEMs - decided I would need 3" internal diameter to avoid squashing the top and/or bottom of my ear with the circumaural designs.

x2.  Even my D2K'a (with markl mods, more correctly, Lawton 2000s) beat the 770/600s for this type of music -- on hard-edge rock maybe the 770/600s have sharper transients.
 
Denon would be my choice for closed phones, or Ultrasone for large symphonic works and opera (better soundstage).  My wife stole my D2K's, so I needed closed phones (I had grown tired of the Ultrasone 750 sound) and didn't want two D2K's in the house, so since I have an amp designed for 600 ohms, the 770/600 were the obvious choice, and they enjoy life next to their brother, the 880/600.

Never would have considered the DT770's akin to the Beetle, but I get your point.
 
Yeah... at some point I've just got to stop reading about other cans... The more I read about eh D5K's the more they sounded (pun intended) like they'd fit the bill. I've been finding something somewhat lacking in the DT770's as excellent as they are. Can't quite put my finger on it, but maybe the D5K's will help me figure that out.

I started off with the 600 and love it. Not sure where you got the $1200 price tag unless you are counting total cost for HP's, DAC, and amp.

Yeah I was counting the cans and the amp.. I have no idea what you mean by DAC..I have a friend whos an electric engineer and I asked him if he can get me an amp for these phones for cheap.. I wonder how much this is going to cost.
