This is exactly the conclusion I came to today...and reverted back to stock Sony 3.02. I guess those guys knew exactly what they were doing after all
PS. My WM1Z is not modded, and Bright was an absolute no-no with IER-Z1R (unless you hate bass, in which case, go for it!)
Mine is modded to the Nth degree.
Bit of a Frankenstein honestly
Works well though
@Lookout57 The headphones that I'm using are easy on the treble, so Bright is a good match.
Bass I think on this tuning is extremely accurate. That's a preference though..
I think the Plus versions and Alternate DAC for me are not an option that I can live with. I don't exactly know what they're doing, but something is off. I just cannot get comfortable.
I prefer both Bright and WM1Z tunings with them switched off.
This is the 1st time I'm actually enjoying the WM1Z tuning. I don't think I've ever tried it without Plus version being turned on. The timbre is a lot richer than Bright. Stage is deeper on this tuning. It's surprisingly wide as well, almost sneaks up on you. Bright in comparison is a flatter type of wide.
Mids are sooo smooth.
This is very nice. Most importantly...No fatigue. It's effortless resolution, nothing sounds out of place or stretched out.
If I was to describe these 2 tunings in speaker terms, the WM1Z tuning would be like having copper foil capacitors in your speaker crossover, and the DMP-Z1 would be like having silver ones. How Sony is doing this via just firmware? I am, at a complete loss to explain.
ADD: After listening to the WM1Z tuning all day. Region U is where I'm calling it.
I'm sick and tired of trying new settings. WM1Z (U) Everything else normal.
Sorry for the rant. I'm figuring this out in real time
