How did you mod them? :p

How did you mod them? :p

Not sure if this is  100% accurate as it's off the top of my head but Hifiman original Velour pads, 2mm foam disc behind driver with hole, slightly smaller than the whole in the felt.  cottonnail pads cut up and placed around the driver in the back.  Half cotton nail pad placed over back of driver, One extra Beyer black foam/felt driver cover pad on top of the original covering the front of the driver.

1.  Audeze LCD-4
1.  Focal Utopia

truly... i've had both for exactly 5 months now.  i can not declare a winner.  it's impossible.  so i've officially stopped trying to, or caring.  every day i switch i think the one i'm listening to is my favorite.  until i put the other on again.  i've never experienced anything like it, ESPECIALLY since they are so different and have such unique strengths.  i love listening to hip-hop, R&B, dance/electronica, and anything else inherently loud and complex on the LCD-4.  as it separates everything, delivers big bass, and presents it all on a delicious platter without any strain or fatigue.  such a musical headphone.  on the Utopia, i love listening to rock, acoustic stuff, classical and jazz.  unmatched realism and 3-D sound.  it paints a high-def, multi-dimensional picture of the music for you to experience and just revel in.

they are both magic.  they are both worth their high price tags.  and they are both worth owning, even (or especially?) together.  they blow me away every.  single.  day.

2.  Oppo PM-2
3.  Sennheiser HD700
4.  Denon D5000 (Lawton Mod 1)
5.  Bowers and Wilkens P7 Wireless

Damn, mate, you make me want 'em both :).

Can I ask what upstream rig(s) you are using...is it the same rig for both of those HP's?  Thanks.

Happy Listening,

1.  Philips Fidelio X2
2.  Sennheiser HD 6XX (rarely used)
3.  Creative Aurvana Live!
4.  Koss Porta Pro

The HD 6XX just isn't doing much for me, and I've not found a genre of music that I really prefer with it.  I've kept the CAL! for those times I need less sound leakage, but it may be time to look for an upgrade on the closed back side.  The Porta Pro still works well for those rare occasions when I need headphones while traveling.
