Rank the Headphones that You Own.

Since I don't have a large collection, mine are all very close/equal in some respects/better or worse in others, aside from my K702s that stand out on top in most categories.

So I'll rank them for different categories of music & specific uses:

Jazz:
  1. K702
  2. HD25
  3. CAL!
  4. DR-BTN200
Classical:
  1. K702
  2. CAL!
  3. DR-BTN200
  4. HD25
Metal:
  1. HD25
  2. K702
  3. DR-BTN200
  4. CAL!
Rock:
  1. K702
  2. HD25
  3. CAL!
  4. DR-BTN200
EDM:
  1. CAL!
  2. HD25 tied with K702 (HD25 has more bass, but I find the K702 more "fun" sounding here if I'm not reaching for my CAL!)
  3. DR-BTN200* (These would have ranked higher when I first got them but they lost all their clamping force and a significant portion of bass as a result)
Hip-hop:
  1. CAL! tied with K702 (depends on how heavy the bass emphasis is, for sub-bass heavy tracks, CAL! is #1, for everything else the K702 is more fun.)
  2. HD25
  3. DR-BTN200
YouTube/Podcasts/TV/Movies:
  1. K702
  2. CAL!
  3. DR-BTN200
  4. HD25
ASMR:
  1. K702 tied with DR-BTN200 simply depending on whether I don't need isolation (K702) or do (DR-BTN200).
  2. HD25
  3. CAL!
Loud Environments (Trains, vacuuming, etc):
  1. HD25
  2. DR-BTN200
  3. CAL!
  4. K702

The TL;DR from all that is my K702s are my go to headphones, my CAL!s still win for some very bass heavy music, HD25s are the winner when I need to shut out external noise, and my DR-BTN200s are typically my bedphones or sometimes what I use if I want to get up and dance without knocking cables.

---

If I had to sum up the first thing that comes to mind about each in a sentence or less it'd be:

K702: Close your eyes and it feels like you're there.
CAL!: Never knew (brain) massages could be this cheap.
HD25: Can't Believe It's Not ANC™
DR-BTN200: Battery may last longer than our polar ice caps.

In that case, you might prefer the HD660S even more, which has a consumer-friendly V-shaped tuning.
The HD 660S V-shaped? Not even close. That is basically a neutral headphone with a slightly relaxed upper mids compared to the HD 650, in fact it has less mid-bass than the HD 650 and I find it a little more relaxed in the treble than the HD 650 as well. I own both and compared them directly numerous times recently. Now if we’re talking the HD 660S2 then I would say that is a slight v-shape sound at least for an HD 6xx series headphone but not even close to a real v-shaped headphone.

I had both (HD6XX in my case) as well so I guess we can agree to disagree. I found the HD660S to be boomier in the lower end and shoutier in the upper registers in comparison to my HD6XX.

Old or new HD 660S? The pad revision they did a few years ago on the entire HD 6xx line changed things up a bit imho particularly in the upper mids (less shouty/hard in presentation). I found early HD 660S’s I heard quite shouty as well. Current HD 660S’s are probably the most neutral and least offensive of all the HD 6xx line imho, I tried current production HD 600, 650, and 660S as well as the HD 660S2 recently.

1. ZMF Caldera
2. ZMF Verite Closed
3. Stax SR-007

It's quite interesting getting a new headphone and comparing it to the others you have in the collection. Sometimes it feels like the new headphone changes the way I heard the other ones. Perhaps it's just a new point of reference in my head. That's what happened to me when I received the Caldera and then went back to the Verite closed. The Caldera just sounded fuller with the lower bass response compared to the Verite closed. It's like your perspective changes the more you listen.

1. ZMF Caldera
- good at everything, likes power and $$$$$ source gear but doesn't need it, scales well with higher tier equipment, highly impressive sound when paired correctly

2. ZMF Auteur Classic
- also good at everything, just in a different way, doesn't need as much power, probably the best all-rounder I have ever heard, loves tubes!!!

3. ZMF Atrium Closed
- soul & passion kings + ommppfffy bass that isn't distorted, darker ZMF tuning

4. ZMF Verite Open
- detail & speed kings + the soundstage!!!!

5. HiFiMan Susvara
- same as above, but with less emotion

6. Meze Elite
- good at everything, just not as crazy clear as 1/2, very fast

7. Focal Utopia
- detail hounds, slam hounds, but need emotion

8. Rosson RAD0
- like the weird kid in class that everyone wanted to be cool with + they sound/look neato - better than you would think

9. Beyerdynamic 1990 Pro
- great for mastering or analyzing audio tracks, excellent work headphone

Currently own them all.

I'll add more later but I'm going to bed.
