The fully open back without a cup will make this experiment sound really bad.
Ya maybe. Its not something I intend to try and find out. PMB 100 is more interesting as a historical artifact rather than as a “good” sound, I think. If I dont display them in my home then I will sell for sure.

We do know the intention of design Jurg Jecklin had numerous articles about it.
He did? I would love to read them. Links?

When Jürg Jecklin came onto the market with the FLOAT in 1971, hardly anyone could have guessed the success story that was just beginning.

The idea was simple. To place 2 flat sound transducers at the right angle in front of the ears. Nothing that encloses the ears, so that the sound gets into the ear, but also the head around the ear. So "hearing" as nature intended for us humans. Natural and completely fatigue-free.

If you search you can find a lot of info. I have one and they are not just a "historical artifact" properly set up they image very well. That was the idea, headphone that image like speakers.

Interesting. Thanks! I had forgotten about the Jecklin Float. This description seems to indicate that the driver + baffle should not touch the ears at all but actually be forward and away from ears. I will have to try the headphones again and play with fitment now knowing how they should be positioned.

The very recent Grell OAE1 is also attempting to image unlike typical headphones, and fitment / positioning has massive effects on perceived sound. See measurements here demonstrating variability. My OAE1 should arrive in a few days.

Yep, Grell OAE1 are an attempt to do something similar. AKG1000 are also. I have Grell OAE1, just got them the other day, very interesting DF headphones. I am mostly interested in 3D positioning and psyco-acoustic stuff when it comes to hi-end so these are in my wheelhouse.

Good headphones that actually achieve 3D imaging are Stax Sigma. I like my pair with well recorded layered music.

I had forgotten that I had the PMB 100 manual and I tried positioning the driver as instructed. With the driver in that position, my ears do touch. My head shape may be too odd or maybe the “pads” have lost some of their firmness and are no longer able to push driver far enough away from head.

I recall, I got a bit better fit on my PMB crash helmet when I adjusted the elastics on the headband as it was riding too low for my head and the elasticity was kind of weak by the time I got them. Might be obvious if there's too much sag in the headband. Restored in those pics they look really good.

Gentlemen, I shall assume that DUAL DK 220 and PMB 6 are of the same breed? Both are 2X140 ohm, 2000mW max cans. Any chance you can confirm that from experience? That they have the same sound characteristics? Thanks.
I only have experience for DK220 but their signature and driver seems to be different.

Here is DK220 ortho driver
