I was happy to sell my two pairs of T30, good sounding cans, but very uncomfortable.
I've got two sets of T30's in very good condition. If anyone wants one, PM me.
so 4 pairs available? wooow..
I did order some XB700 pads. I'll give 'em a try.
nice, and dont forget to try the simple mod that i've share before..
So these are kind of interesting. (most of you already know what these are)
The design is interesting.
The protruding silver ring with the 9 vents is where the driver sits.
There doesn't seem to be damping (because there's no space for any) so I guess these vents act as the tuning for the driver.
The rest of the cup is a slightly curved thick piece of plastic for the earpad to sit on.
So it's super minimalist.
great found...
so how's the sonic impression of those TOTL sawafuji's?

Oh... the search is over. I think this is the one

+1
Would like to see more pics and read about impressions. Honestly, this is the first time I've seen such an unusual looking ortho can, but I really love the look.

And impressions?
Well, it's a typical SFI sound.
Lower res than most.
A bit dull and distant.
But as usual more 'truthful' than a cheap dynamic...
Compared to other SFI's I've heard:
Pro - I think the bass is excellent. The large earpads really do a good job of sealing most of the bass in, while allowing a small amount out to spread over the ear.. kinda natural decay there, instead of the usual 'thump'.
Con - There is some elevated honkiness (maybe that's not the right word) in the upper midrange that I find displeasing for most music.
Inevitably it suffers from the same rolled off bass and treble as all others.

I can sense the mods just by looking at them... What a cool headphone.
So the driver is secured with black goop also or is it easy to take out to get at the back for damping with Micropore etc..

I think they're glued in. I didn't want to put too much pressure on this (don't know how fragile the plastic is ... yet) but they didn't budge at all.
I guess pad rolling might be an option, but they're 85mm diameter, which is a tad smaller than K141 pads. So it's quite an unusual/awkward pad size.

Hmmm a bit more of a process to free the driver than might be worth the risk then.
They look pretty snug in there, nothing worth a missing finger over
one good slip with the blade....
I was thinking about selective damping of a few holes with Micropore, and also adding a layer of Dynamat on the earside of the wide baffles.
if I ever get around to finding experiences with Micropore and SFI's I will link.
Or post trials.
Your avatar picture always reminds me of Audio Bullets or Ammunition

Selective damping sounds like a plan. I didn't even check if I could see the holes through this one yet.
Yeah, somehow I ended up with a nice little collection of adapters.
A fun little bi-product of this hobby.

nice, so SF-17 have the 120ohm SFI's driver, right? but is it the same as our in-expensives 120ohm SFI's driver back in the old day on our DIYortho's?

thanks for the detailed impression..sounds kinda familiar though, well i have the DIYortho 120ohm that still working..long time not hear those, since i gave them several years ago to my brother..
Just a close up of the vents covered by some thin felt.
The middle pic shows a nice plastic mesh on the earside of the driver which is the first time I've seen this on an SFI.
Also to the right of the driver you can just about make out the flat rectangle of plastic covering the cable entry. It is held down by a black, rubber-putty-like substance.
Notice how the earpad was also glued to the baffle around the inside... had to be careful not to tear the earpad while taking it off. (I had to replace the cable as it was faulty).
The third photo will help you appreciate how thin this headphone is.
is it possible the plastic mesh held by silver ring there just an add on, to protect the driver from hair/sweat&dust? yea, its look thinner than other TOTL from other brand..kewl..
oh, the stock cable faulty?

Sorry, I was being a little sarcastic... I mean, it's an SFI, nothing to get too excited over.
Going by the sound sound/size of it, I think it's the usual 32 Ohm. Doesn't need much to go loud.
The plastic mesh looks stock. I was the first one to open these up since the pads were still glued down.
Would be impossible to add the mesh without taking off the pads. Also, the aluminium ring doesn't seem to be tampered with.

buy a replacement pad of sony XB series on ebay, i used XB500 pads, you might wanna try the bigger size like XB700..try to put them on, you would notice they being more comfyier than before, if needed, unbent the headband a lil bit would loosen up the tension..just be careful not to do that holding the arm fork or housing, the arm fork here are a lil' bit fragile becos they not made from steel..and as i notice it was made from fiber/plastic, its way too thin at the forks edge of the joint to the housing..you dont wanna make them crack accidentally like i did with the silver arm fork..
so the comfy mod are the pads and a lil' bit unbend if needed..
next, re-sealing the inside housing with dynamat&silicon sealer..you might find several mod from me if search em using luddo search tool..
if there anything you need to know, just mention me..
So these xb700 pads turned up today. I guess these are an adhesive installation on the T30? kinda big!
My T30s are still stored somewhere so i haven't messed with them yet.
Dynamat isn't gonna happen but i will be buying some peel-n-seal for my money pit (1984 VW Jetta Coupe 1.6TD) so i can put a bit on the plastic wherever it looks like it might resonate.
Haven't gone looking for your mods yet but I tend to like tight and controlled (but deep) bass, linear and smooth midbass and mids, and AKGish treble. I usually damp harder and harder until the bass starts to disappear, then back it off a bit, then tune the rest. If i want "soundstage" I'll put on some 'stats or maybe QP85.
