Hello and happy new year to all of you.

Hi ThinWalls,

How come you think the dual adaptor is a safer choice than the quad?
Around X-mas I just had ordered a quad and 4 Sandisk 128GB micro SDXC cards - was that a mistake?
I hope not.

Greets,
Julia

Simply because I haven't found a 'reliable brand' for micro sx cards equivalent to PNY for full size cards. Referring only to the case of >128gb plus rockbox. Again, I suspect it won't be a problem for smaller capacity cards.

E.g. my 800gb quad, can't build it's own database as it can't write to the cards.

I've been using a rockboxed 80gb 5.5 ipod with tarkan's dual adapter and 2 512gb U3 PNY cards for over a year and a half with no issues (knock on wood). Maybe the rockbox problems are only with the 6th generation?

I have succesfully built the database tool to create the database using the computer. It can be found in the rockbox repository and It works great on my stock iPod 6g and Sansa e280. If you are using Linux, I could share it with you and provide instructions.

How is the performance (e.g. speed of scrolling through files, scrolling through albums with pictureflow)? Does it lag or take some time to show the slides? I have a ZIF SSD installed in my 5.5g and it's not smooth to use.

If I upgrade the memory and battery in my iPod classic 7th generation will it still work with the cypher labs solo? I'm thinking of going the iflash-solo route, 256 sd card, and with a larger battery. I would like to replace the iPod backplate too. How should I go about this?

Should be fine as long as you stick with the apple OS. This is exactly what I am doing and it still works with my onkyo digital output dock.

The biggest difference I notice is it takes rockbox a long time to first turn on. Once on, scrolling through albums & folders seems about the same as OF.

Yup, I have cards that won't work on a classic with rockbox, but work fine on a 5th gen. Though I thought I had trouble with them on 5.5gens, but didn't really put much effort into getting that combo to work. 5.5gens share with classics the obfuscated disk formatting, whereas 5th gens use a format which can be easily read by a PC, so I was kind of expecting a 5.5gen to have the same problem as a 6th gen - but that might not actually be the case.

That's interesting/useful to hear. I saw something about that database tool but was put off by the fact it seemed to date from 10 years ago as Rockbox has changed a lot since then. I had a linux rockbox dev system set up (started writing a plug-in), but the hard drive failed on that machine. Frankly, setting up a rb dev environment strained my brain, and I haven't been able to face doing it all again yet. But I hope to get round to it at some point, so if you want to post any info about that tool it would be welcome.

Thanks! I just scored a near mint Apple iPod Hi-FI, so I'm looking forward to getting a 5.5 Gen!

128 GB 5.5 gen ipod with a 6th gen front! I thought I had a battery drain issue from some other parts as mentioned in my last post before, but it turns out it was the board. Getting a new 5.5 board fixed everything and now the battery is charging normally. In any case, I'm very happy with the results!

vFrom memory the 5.5 has a search function the 5th gen does not. But you can check the model number in the about your ipod screen to be sure.

5th Gen 30Gb MA002 / MA146 / PA002 / PA146 ~20000 Tracks
5th Gen 60Gb MA003 / MA147 / PA003 / PA147 ~50000 Tracks
5.5th Gen 30Gb MA444 / MA446 / PA444 / PA446 / MA664 ~20000 Tracks
5.5th Gen 80Gb MA448 / MA450 / PA448 / PA450 ~50000 Tracks
6th Gen 80Gb MB029 / MB147 128Gb / ~50000 Tracks
6th Gen 160Gb MB145 / MB150 / PB145 / PB150 128Gb / ~50000 Tracks / Requires Ribbon
