But I assume technically it's still not on the level of Hugo?

Hip Hop for some odd reason sound good though.  It does good to some hip hop bass and dynamics.  Maybe your tupac audiophile collection may benefit.

It's been awhile since I blasted hip hop on hi fidelity equipment.  I didn't know some hip hop tracks has such dynamics.  It's just outputing how it was recorded I guess.

tupac and B.I.G's recordings are surprisingly more dynamics than what I've heard with other recordings.  Hip Hop Bass is incredible!  I was so wrong about AK240's bass.

Thanks for sharing.  Is better to let a driver run full range than cross it over both on the high and or low ends for your midrange drivers?

Well there are some... First off all full-range driver doesn't suffer form delay caused by capacitors. Secondly it provide base for whole spectrum which then you can amplify in certain points using other drivers.
In acrylic IEMs you see woofers wired as a full ranges with acoustic low-passes (dampers) that helps to avoid mentioned delay. In Harmony full range was necessary from another reason which I don't want to discuss, because I don't want to give away too much details about design. Just read what guys has to say about H8P and you'll know it does its job :)

I am wondering what will be my next treat...K10, V6X control, Fitear 335 or 435, Westone ES60, Harmony 8 or maybe Rhine Stage 5?

That's the first I've heard of the ES60, Mim'

I'm struggling to see why Westone are charging $1499 for it.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Very little info, but Tomcy seemed to say it is not revolutionary. The 335 I have heard, and like despite the colored sound. The H8 I know to be excellent as I trust Tupac saying it performs at SE5 level. K10 is clearly TOTL but more specifically the art is great. VE6X I was not convinced by the demos but the custom will be much better.

Scratch this.  Went back to my DAC2.  240 got some whooppin.  Hiphop recordings are generally very dynamic and fun to listen to.  NT6 sounds like cans out of the DAC2.

Eh? Never heard the ES60. I have commented on the W60, but not the ES60.

Nice. I'm very interested in the Fusion 11.  Looking forward to more comparisons when you have time.

Time is the key here.  I wanted to get some initial thoughts, but the review is a little ways off.

I'd like to request a comparison with the Viento-R when you publish either review.  Both of these are something I'm considering but there can only be one.

Because they can?

Seriously though, their line of thinking probably goes something like this: ES5 was very competitive with JH13FP and other top models of the past few years. It went for under $1k which made it more affordable than most of those others, by several hundred dollars. Since $1499 is no longer a shocklingly high price for a custom IEM, maybe they feel they need to step up to the higher price range.

I know nothing about their design or whether it does anything special to justify the somewhat high price. I will say the ES5 remains a favorite of mine despite having a lower driver count than some other flagships. It's all in the tuning. One of these days I'll have to look at the ES60 more closely.

For the record, when I bought UM's Miracle, I was basically choosing between the (non-FP) JH13, the Miracle, and the ES5.

So please don't think I'm being 'anti-Westone' - I have nothing at all against Westone. I'm simply observing that the $1499 pricetag seems very arbitrary, and I am interested to see how it performs against other TOTL competitors, but reserving the right to be a little skeptical at this early stage.

When I was originally considering an ES5 purchase, it was the lush midrange that many had mentioned, which appealed to me. If the ES60 can do that and add other competitive talents, then maybe the pricetag will be justified, after all

I agree completely. Sorry if I came off as defensive.... that wasn't my intent at all. I was a big fan not only of the ES5 sound but also the pricing which seemed more on the sane side compared to JH13 and UE18. So I too am curious about the increase, but not really surprised to see it.

The market is growing and I suspect Westone found themselves looking at the popularity of stuff like Tralucent and FutureSonics (cheap components selling for high prices) and wishing they had a similar profit structure.

I also wonder about their ES50. It's $1149 and I wonder what (if anything) has changed from the ES5. And also how it compares to their ES60.
