Hi there, I've been reading the information about acrylic v silicone custom earphones. Are there any companies besides FitEar and M-Fidelity that provide solid acrylic or silicone filled acrylic shells either as standard or as an option? I think I read in this thread that Earsonics do as well, but I don't think their earphones have the type of sound I am after. Thanks

Noble Audio does both acrylic and silicone customs.

Mmmmm... but Marcus wasn't asking for that.

He was asking for acrylic shells filled with either silicone or acrylic.

Other than Fitear and M-Fidelity, nothing springs immediately to my mind.

Apparently Rhines Customs and Vision Ears have the option of solid acrylic shells, but it's definitely not standard because when I asked both companies about it they were unclear about the details.

Could get extremely expensive if a refit or reshell is required, given that the odds of BA damage during destruction of the original shell would presumably increase quite substantially.

So I’ve been reading a lot of reviews and think I’ve narrowed my choice down to the Custom Art Harmony 8 Pro, Earsonics EM6 or Noble Audio 5S. I can’t try any of them out, so was hoping there would be a recommendation based on my preferred sound. Here it is again for convenience:

I generally like a balanced sound which is clear and crisp.  I am not a fan of very warm or dark earphones.  I also like a sound that is slightly aggressive as opposed to mellow.  I want to avoid anything where the music and vocals feel distant, as I prefer a more up-front presentation especially for vocals. I would like some more bass than flat/neutral and have no problems with treble.

I’m sorry again for clogging up this thread. I do appreciate everyone’s advice.

EM6?? They are dynamic and sometimes too speed for the tracks, but they are not agressive at all, the opposite of an ER4p sound for example. The H8pro are less speed but more precise and agressive. I don't know how does sound the N6pro but it seems they're what you're looking for.

The presentation of the EM32 doesn't have the mids upfront. They can sometimes sound sharp but not as sharp as the H8pro.

I wish I could help, but I am not familiar with those earphones and very much a CIEM newbie myself. I have read in more than one place that Earsonics are easy to drive and I remember in your first post you said you would be using the earphones with a mobile phone. The only thing is you cannot have the filled acrylic shells with the EM6, only the EM32 or EM4. Earsonics confirmed this to me by telephone. I think it’s got something to do with the number of drivers. You also said isolation is important to you.

The Hidition NT-6 PRO might suit you and it’s very well thought of on Head-Fi. Personally, I wouldn’t buy something without a demo but that’s just me. Hidition don’t have demo units outside Asia unfortunately. Have you looked into the Germany company Rhines Customs? A friend of mine owns their Stage 4U and raves about it. I think it might be the type of sound you are looking for as well (reference but not bass-lite). I haven’t bought any of their products, but I found their custom service very good. Also, they do filled acrylic shells.

EarSonics filled only their CIEMs which don't use vented drivers. That's why only the EM2/3/32 can be filled.

Yes. totally agree. But he doesn't wish to give up the clarity and crisp sound, that's why EM32 fits the bill (H8p is even more mid recessed).

If he just likes mids-upfront, I would just recommend SE5 to him obviously ;p.

Arf it depends, sometimes mids on h8pro are more forward than on EM32 but EM32 are more powerful. SE5 could be a good choice as they seem to convey power effortless

IMO SE 5ways Reference totally fits marcusdb requirements, except for his reservation that the doesn't like dark sound phones.

BTW, Harmony 8 Pro are more mid recessed than EM32???
