AmberOzl from what I've read concerning the SE5, don't take the the EM6 but the EM32 for 3 main reasons :
- SE5 and EM6 seems to share some characteristics in terms of sound signature and SE5 is better than EM6 ( from what Mimouille said, could you confirm Joe ? )
- EM32 is really better than EM6 : less colored, better sense of deepness, more detailed, more precise, more transparent... To my mind that's their flagship
- EM32 has the organic bass response you could feel on a monitoring speaker. That get low, very low, and deep. Keeping the rest of the frequencies with no difficulties, for me it's a new level of perception of what I could named a neutral sound, much more than the EM6 that are realistic but absolutely not flat

I am really interested how EM32 sounds too. and how they (3 drivers) compare with other top CIEMs. Maybe I will give ear sonics one more chance soon. Let's see how Roxanne satisfies me first.
 
Strictly speaking, EM6 doesn't share any characteristics of SE5 in terms of sound signature. Although they both sounds smooth, full and organic, they still sounds very different to my ears. SE5 is much more neutral in terms of ....hmm...everything.

You can send your EM6 to ask an upgrade to EM32 that normally cost 150€ without transport.

  Regarding impressions materials I think this will be a hit in some time. Idea behind it is genius.

 
This method is used by UE, ACS, and more (maybe with a different manufacturer of the equipment).

UE has been talking with Lantos since they came out with the technology, and it is supposedly canal only.  But that was a while ago, so who knows if they have improved it.  The second link mentions a 120 degree fan scan of the outer ear.

It seems my dabbling in CIEMs may be a brief one

Just tried on my Etymotic MC5 again and they seem to have the customs beat in seal and SQ (even when the latter is properly sealed)

In particular, the bass of the MC5 (no bass monsters themselves) beat the customs into a cocked hat

I suppose I could return them for a remold, but if it costs any money (and I think a revisit to the audiologist for new impressions should be called for) I'd rather let them sit there looking pretty?

 
Wow, your CIEM is either bass light or the seal is very bad (not that the MC5 is bad, but it does use a dynamic driver).  Can you push the CIEM further in your ear and move it around to see if you can get the true sound to come out.  A bad seal can be overcome with by pushing them in.  Also, see if this helps at all.

My S-EM6 is on the way back to EarSonics as they requested my unit back due to an issue with a driver.  The issue was confirmed with one S-EM6, and 9 more used the same batch of drivers, so they wanted them all back to make sure there were no issues.  They will replace it with the Crystal version.  The SE5 is quite different than the S-EM6, which was not what I was expecting per my comparison with the SM64 here.
 
I too am very interested in the EM32.

Hey sometimes I am happy to just appreciate what others have to say

I only tried the S-EM6 and they are very different from thr SE5 to my ears. Much more smooth and laid back, whereas the SE5 are much more hifi, with details sticking out more, less smoothed out trebble. The SE5 soundstage is narrower but deeper, mids are more transparent, less earsonics-style. SE5 goes deeper bass wise to my ears, and without any bass boost. Overall, I prefer the SE5 and find them superior, but the S-EM6 are very nice, more forgiving, and easy to listen to over long periods of time. From the comparisons I have read with the EM32, the EM32 sounds very interesting. I might wait for Tupac to get his now....
