MDR-Z1000 new Sony flagship headphones

Been lusting after those for a while, so I just got some.

These cans are the Pierre Boulez of HP. Much like when Boulez conducts a score you'll hear every note that's on the page, with the Z1000 I feel like hearing everything that's in the recording - good or bad. Every detail is there, including those that had previously been hidden using other, less capable cans. They are very, very detailed, yet without sounding cold or analytic. Quite a feat. So far (two days) I love them very much, may post further impressions later.

I just got them too. I like them from what I've heard so far. I'm surprised these aren't as popular as they should be. Especially now that they're around 300 dollars. I think 500 would have been a stretch but I'm pretty happy at this price point.

Well, I don't know. As far as high-end portables go, I also have ESW10jpn and ES10, and I think the Z1000 trounce them in almost all areas so far. The only thing that I miss a bit from the Sony and that I could do with a bit more is the AT's PRaT. But that's about it. Everything else, to my ears, the Sony do better. So, I couldn't say that even at $500 they were thoroughly overpriced, unless you also consider both AT to be so. It's not the deal of the century, but it's certainly not a rip-off either.
That said, obviously $300 is even better, especially for such cans :p

I currently have the ATH-A900 headphones. Are the Z1000 enough of an upgrade to justify their price? Are there any other closed headphones that rival the Z1000 in its price range?

Where can you get the Z1000 for $300?

Aww... the ES10's are so pretty, I was hoping they sound like the A2000X.

Alright guys. Should I get the MDR7520 or the MDRZ1000? What I gather is some people hear a difference, some suggest they're the same can.

At amazon I can get MDR7520 for 350$, but it's from a retailer that isn't on sony's authorized list.
At amazon, i can get MDRZ1000 for 300$~ from the warehouse deals section.

Which way would you go? New 7520 for 350, or used z1000 for 300$?

BTW, there are some nice pics here: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clubic.com%2Fmateriel-audio-hifi%2Fcasque-audio%2Farticle-455380-1-sony-mdr-z1000.html&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

Their conclusion is that the SQ improvement over the HD25 is not worth the +2X higher price tag....well, we were well aware of the diminishing returns that go w/ head-fi TYVM

Well, they are pretty, though they do scratch easily enough  It's not that they are not good cans, they have a high quality fun sound, it's just that the Sony's better them in most respects. I truly am enjoying the Z1000 for now, and I haven't listened to any other cans since I got them.
I have yet to try the Ed. 8, but as far as closed portable cans (or closed cans period) go, this might very well be it for me.

How about new Z1000 for $311 at beachaudio?

I'd like to know if Z1000 and 7520 are the same can too.

nc8000 - Okay, it's possible I didn't use the correct source or amp for them, and I was disappointed they didn't sound as good as they looked.

I may be biased to an airier, clearer sound too, I did like the Edition 10's better than the 8's, but my personal preference put the T5p's above the Ultrasones, LCD-2, HD800 and A2000X when I listened to them all briefly at a meet with the same source.
